Being veggie, I know I will always get an excellent option array at an Indian, and this place did not disappoint. We arrived without a booking and were seated straight away, although I am glad we arrived when we did because it got very busy after we arrived. We opted for the poppadoms instead of a starter, I had the paneer chilli for my main with egg rice and my husband had a lamb dish. Loads of food, we were asked how spicy we wanted the dish, and the waiters were attentive without being overbearing. We opted for desserts for which I chose ice cream (perfect after the paneer chilli 🤣) and my husband had the pistachio kulfi. All told, we had a lovely meal. Be warned that the restaurant is up a very very steep hill. It is not far up the hill, but it will be difficult for those with breathing or walking difficulties.

Despite COVID-19 times quite some people visited Gurkha Kitchen at the same time as we did and hope they had the same stellar experience as we had. The service is superb and utmost friendly, the choice is great and the Nepalese options add nicely on top of a typical Indian menu. We had the usual papadums and they came with an extra, delicious Nepalese topping. Samosas as starters and then a true recommendation, Chicken Tikka Saslik. As a genuine Nepalese curry, you won’t find it at your regular Indian place - the BBQ-ed chicken is served sizzling with onions, tomatoes and peppers and comes with a Nepalese herbs sauce. No doubt the other dishes are great as well but this one stole our heart, as did the staff. And with a bill below €60 for 2 complete meals with drinks, the price is very reasonable as well. Big thumbs up!

We really enjoyed our visit to this restaurant. My wife and I were taking a walk in Carvoeiro and when we saw this restaurant we decided on a whim to try out nepalese food for the first time. As we approached, the very nice staff came out of the door to greet us and asked us if we would like to have a seat and take a look at what they have for dinner. We agreed and after a while we ordered some starters. The restaurant wasn't so populated at the time, because of covid and so the 2 waiters were able to handle all the people. The music playing outside made for a nice ambience and it was quite pleasing to enjoy the evening summer breeze. The waiter (Jay) who handled us treated us very nicely and his service made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The food I had, chicken wings with some delicious yoghurt sauce, and then Balti lamb with garlic naan bread, was all delicious and very well made. Jay also surprised us in the end as he brought the check, along with a gift of a typical nepalese dessert which was some kind of cake with grated carrot. He told us the name of it, but I honestly can't remember it anymore! Sorry 😅 My wife and I really enjoyed the whole experience and we will probably be returning. We don't eat out so often, so it might take you a while to catch us again!

Having been to this restaurant many times before, we decided to visit again knowing that we’d get a great meal and good value for money too. Unfortunately, we were disappointed! The prices seem to have hiked up, the service was so slow we had drank a bottle of wine nearly whilst awaiting poppadoms.... the servers although polite and apologetic, seemed to just faff around. The food when it arrived was average, not the fabulous food we had experienced in the past. Such a shame

We rarely give poor reviews but we wete disappointed with the service. Arriving at 8pm we left at 9.15 having had just a drink and pappadoms. We paid when the waiter cane to take our order as he said that meal itself would take at least another 30 minutes- so would have been nearly 2 hours from arrival. I think the reason was that that provided service to several tables at a time and not just individually. Shame but however good food was going to be- the service was ubacceptable

So disappointing considering the reviews we read. The food is good but the service was terrible. Between sitting down and getting our main courses was over 90 minutes. Had to order the same drinks multiple times as they just wouldn’t turn up. Staff would come outside with food and just stand there looking bewildered as it seemed they didn’t know the table numbers... they’d just walk around seemingly guessing if it was a table’s meal or not. The staff would also move in herds, with about three of them serving one table at a time... strange..! Other tables were complaining about the service as well. As I said, the food is good and tasty (Sherpa Lamb curry is recommended) but you may be waiting a while for it.

Used to frequent a Nepalese restaurant when I lived in the UK - loved the food and the people so noticed this place while meeting a friend and decided to try. Food was lovely...a little more pricey than I'd normally go for but past experience of Nepalese food made me think of it as something special. The food was very fragrant, flavour some and well cooked and really enjoyed it. My only criticism is that while the waiter was very friendly I kind of got the feeling he was trying a bit too hard and perhaps directing us to the more expensive items on the menu... for example the cobra beer as opposed to the normal beer and perhaps stating the obvious as though we'd never eaten in any restaurant before. I think maybe he was new and perhaps a bit over zealous and keen ..I know the Nepalese are very helpful and kind people but personally.. if I'm not sure what something on the menu is.. I'll ask I don't need every item explained to me... but I'm sure maybe when things get busier and times a bit less desperate he'll learn to just give people that little bit more space. We both enjoyed our food and were certainly full and would certainly go back next time we're in town

Travelling as a group of 16 golfers this restaurant was recommended to us by the owner of a local bar. Safe to say his recommendation was spot on, the service was fast and friendly but more importantly the food was fantastic. All the dishes we had were enjoyed thoroughly, the chef came out to ask us individually if we were enjoying our food and when one of our party couldn’t handle the heat of his dish the chef was more than happy to take it back to cool it down a little. Very definitely worth a visit if your in the area.

We are no strangers to Carvoeiro but we were looking online for new places to eat as many restaurants were closed for January. Having seen the reviews, we had no hesitation at turning up at the Gurkha Kitchen. First of all, what lovely staff and proprietors. They were very welcoming and friendly. We had decided to go for the Nepalese cuisine rather than the Indian to try something new. All of the dishes we had were absolutely beautiful and expertly cooked and presented. The proprieter and his staff went to great lengths to ensure we were happy with our meals without being intrusive. The service was absolutely 100% for us. We were so happy with our meals that we returned again for another meal and had a lovely chat with the young lady who was serving us. We would highly recommend this restaurant for the authentic food and the amazing level of service. Nothing is too much trouble for them. I hope they continue to run the restaurant in this way and I wish them every success. I definitely will return on a future visit.

We have visited twice this week. As the food and service were both so good. We loved the Nepalese fish curry. Had a vegetable Biryani which was also lovely. They were kind enough to indulge me on the 2nd occasion with a generous serving of plain steamed vegetables to help me keep to my diet. Lovely papadums, and the most generous chutney and pickle tray we've ever seen. It's an unpretentious venue, with outstanding service, especially our Nepalese server: Devi, who speaks perfect English. Charming in every way.

There are some very good restaurants in Carvoeiro but thought it would make a nice change to have a curry one evening. Having checked the reviews the Gurkha Kitchen looked a good bet and I'm pleased to say it lived up to expectations. The staff were very attentive (a special mention for Robin) and offered helpful advice on menu options. The food arrived quickly, was well presented and delicious. We will certainly eat here again on our next visit to Carvoeiro.

Really excellent food, very attentive service (although it was very quiet) and good value. The meal cost ~20 Euro/person, and the flavours were delicious. We have eaten in a lot of Indian restaurants, and whilst there are some similarities to Indian food, the Nepalese dishes were new to us and very tasty indeed.

Felt like something different so we came to Gurkha Kitchen based on T.A. reviews and we were not disappointed. Food was delicious and full of fresh flavors. Service was fantastic, starting with Davi who is just the sweetest young thing, Jay and the owner/manager Robin..... all who are super friendly. For those who are spice wary, there is an accurate heat rating marked next to each dish on the menu. The prices are at the higher end of moderate, but are well deserved as everything is fresh and made from scratch. We will definitely visit here again for dinner before we leave Carvoeiro .

This was a very nice surprise to eat that good for such a reasonable price in a touristic area. The indien and nepalaise cooking was very tasty and the young nepalaise waiter has gone behond professional to please us. They have a large terrace or an aircon inside dining place (which we chose). We recomand the place without hesitation.
