We had a reasonable lunch here. The ox-tail in red wine was actually very good, but the Bachalau á bras was nothing special. The wine was cheap and palatable and the service acceptable. I would be happy to return for a cheap and cheerful lunch.

We came into the restaurant at 5 minutes to 3:00pm. Many restaurants will turn you away at this time...we experienced that in Lisbon! But the waiter told us that we would need to order quick as the kitchen would close. So we ordered a bottle of water, 2 cold beers, bread, shrimp appetizer and the baked cod fish. Beer was... More

Just off the main square. Genuine alentejo food, excellent waiting staff and memorable interior. Excellent house wine at 14€ a bottle. House specialities around 13€ don't need a started as great covert and big portions. Worth trying something different

We went to Cafe Alentejo based on a rommendation from another restaurant (Dom Jaoquim). The food was exceptional, our waiter recommended a lovely Alentejo red to go with the meal, and dessert with port and coffee was a must. We never felt rushed and the service was very good. This was clearly one of our top 25 meals ever; HIGHLY... More

We were indicated on this restaurant by an owner of a Quinta at the Douro. And we were not disappointed. Good food (we had the arroz de pato and eggs com cilarta) in generous sizes (2 can eat) nice Alentejo dessert as well as a comprehensive Alentejo wine list. Good prices and nice staff.

Lovely atmosphere, best service we're had after two weeks in Portugal (not that service is generally poor here), modestly sized menu and reasonable pricing. The Ox Tail stew (with rice) and Alentejo salad were just right. The casa vihno tinto was better and more favourably priced than higher end wines we've had elsewhere on this trip.

Husband and I spent 2 weeks in Portugal and Spain and this was by far the best meal we have had. We arrived right at 730 (opening time for dinner) and were the first table, however within 30 minutes the restaurant was almost full, and this was a Wednesday night. We started with couvert- an octopus salad and sheep's cheese... More

Skip the overpriced mediocre quality of the restaurants lining the square. This restaurant is 50 steps off the square---great food and service.

We had luch at this restaurant (couple with 2 children) because it was recommended by a local lady and we didn't regret. Service was very good and the food even better. Try "bacalhau ao forno"(good for 2 people) and do not miss the prize winning cheese pudding.
