We found the Cafe Alentejo at lunchtime and it was busy so we booked for dinner the same evening. Oxtail and Pigs Cheeks were our choices and were a delight. Rosé and Red wine flowed easily and complimented the meal very nicely. Within a few steps of the main square in the centre of the city this restaurant is well... More

Introduced the whole family to Portugal's 'green wine' which we all enjoyed with our delicious meal. The younger staff were very welcoming to my family's minimal Portuguese language skills. Good food recommendations too.

Had a dinner with Oxtail stewed, the taste was good but slightly straggling with meat taking off from the bones if you don't have a right tool - sharp knife! Finally got meat and ate with rice. Go to this restaurant you need a right choice of dishes, otherwise you will be disappointed with your food. It's not an expensive... More

We did not have a reservation and arrived early and were glad that we did as the restaurant very quickly filled up. Our waiter spoke good English and helped us select our dishes a recommended a good local wine at a very reasonable price. I had the steak in a sauce and it was superb and more than enough for... The staff were super efficient. The dining room was divided into two parts, and the tables we fairly close together. I had the baked pork cheeks served with roasted potatoes and their homemade chips. There was enough for two people. My husband ordered the Alentejo steak with mushrooms accompanied by a salad and a spinach side. He is a big... More

We were welcome from the start even though we didn't have reservations. Make sure you bring your appetite or I recommend sharing your meal. My wife and I shared a salad but wished we hadn't had it when the main course came there was so much food we couldn't finish it. All the food was delicious and reasonable priced.

All the food was perfect, there is a mushroom salad... omg, it's heaven. The "house wine" is really good and cheap. I think the price was really fare and the waiter was really helpfull with us. I totally recomend thet place.

We came here on a recommendation from from two separate local people. We were offered a fantastic mix of starters on our arrival - soft cheese with crackers and bread which was just incredible and we added a portion of iberico pata negra ham which was also top quality. For mains I had a local pork fish with a bread... More

Reservations were made by friends, so this restaurant was not my choice but had a nice dinner. Slightly chaotic but that was also due to our table company which could not decide on the menus..... Friendly service.

Six of us wanted to dine out; we'd been told this was a typical regional restaurant for the Alentejo, and one that might have dishes cooked with "poejo" -- pennyroyal, which is used to make a local liqueur, but is also an ingredient in meat and soup dishes. The jamon from black-footed pigs was delectable, and the service a bit... More
