Found this place by Saint Catherines. Superb little Resturant with a really friendly atmosphere and staff. tiny place but with big flavours. The service was excellent and the food cooked to perfection. It was a cold day but I understand in better weather you can sit outside. Pity we found this on our last day as would have come back... Stopped, by chance, in this restaurant while in Brussels on business. The food selections are fine with the expected daily specials. Most in the party ordered Belgian specialties and none were disappointed. The "moules de Zealande" (mussels) were extremely fresh and steamed perfectly. The Belgian cheese sauce that accompanied a filet was quite good. The service was attentive but not... More

I love this place. We're regular visitors. The food is good quality Belgian cooking. They focus on steaks with a variety of home made sauces, fish dishes and some Belgian classics. Straightforward and well cooked. The multi-lingual staff are an establishment in their own right, particularly the head waitress. They certainly know their trade. If you want fine dining go... More

I have been to this restaurant several times in the past years and never left disappointed. Situated in the lovely Ste Catherine area just by the church it is an old-fashioned, cozy place, quite small. Food is excellent, classic French/Belgian. Yesterday I enjoyed a delicious Waterzooi with fish. The prices are correct and the service cordial and competent. I do... More

What can I say! Our party of 4 actually licked our plates clean! 3 got the mussels, each in different sauce. Let me tell you, large cassoulet filled to the brim with plump juicy sweet morsels. I had the lamb filet which was one of the best if not the best lamb I ever had. Fine choice of wines, lovely... More

This is a very small restaurant serving traditional Belgian food and beers. The atmosphere feels very homey because of the many vintage signs hanging on the walls and the close proximity of the other tables around you. Despite the small size, they were able to fit seat our group of 7 people quickly. The server helped make recommendations for us... More

Spent a few days in Brussels on a long weekend city break, had some awful experiences with restaurants closer to the city, after a recommendation to try around this square we found La Villette and had one of the nicest meals in a long time. The restaurant is very small, which adds to a cosy experience, great traditional feel, excellent... More

Great service and excellent Belgian food. We ordered mussels with creamy garlic sauce and it was delicious. Mussels were fresh and tasty. I highly recommend this family-owned restaurant.

After bypassing the usual tourist traps we found this little gem! Cosy and intimate and very authentic. The service was excellent and the mussels worthy of another visit. If you want traditional Belgian cuisine then this is a good choice off the beaten track!

Description
La Villette restaurant, opposite lovely St Catherine Church, is as Belgian as it can possibly be. The charming old stucco-fronted building is overhung with awnings, while inside the quaint checkered table cloths, rust wood-panelled walls, country chairs, old framed advertising, and chalkboard menu of specials make this a landmark of postcard Belgian-ness. Yes, you will find tourists here, but also savvy locals who understand that La Villette boasts a more imaginative menu, especially of la cuisine á la biére, than most St Catherine’s establishments. Its forty-strong carte of beers is a powerful incentive, too. Try starter of hot brochette of small Belgian sausages served with two jams, Belgian endive and onion, main course of seasonal mussels with escargot sauce or Fleish beef stew with Maredsous beer, and dessert of crème brûlée ‘the Chimay’s way’, unlike any you’ve tried before.
