Located in the Red Light District my expectations were mixed, but this was a good choice. The steak variety was not well defined but was tasty and done properly. Be advised that medium rare in the U.S. basically equals medium in Amsterdam based on three different restaurants.

Me and my partner visited early on Saturday night. The steaks were ok, nothing spectacular. The Argentina sauce was nice that came with the steaks. It was a tad expensive for 2 steaks chip sauce and soft drink each at €60.

Ordered starter that was advertised as "tortilla chips with guacamole". This consisted of cheese flavour Doritoes (we could see the bag in the kitchen) and pre-packed guacamole sauce. It was not even proper guacamole and should not have been advertised as such. This starter cost €5.90. I find it appalling that any chef would find it acceptable to serve that... More

Although the decor inside is a little tired, I liked the feel of Al Argentino. Visited with two work colleagues, a few beers each and a steak each - the bill came to €84.90.

Small restaurant in the middle of a restaurant district. Fair prices, effective staff but that rib eye steak - wow! Cooked exactly how I like it (medium rare) and it was fantastic - nothing wasted - all eaten - nothing left - possibly my best steak - EVER.

Dropped into this place while out exploring Amsterdam. Ordered the mixed grill that consisted of sirloin, ribeye and fillet steaks. They were amazing. I've eaten a lot of steak over the years and these were up there with find of the best I've had. Food was great, staff were attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was nice. Can recommend this for... Food was not even regular, The sauce wasn't fresh. The waiters were in a bad mood, not a single smile was given.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
