The entourage is a little funny, if you are familiar with China-town then it fits right in. Walking past a mini-kitchen with the roasted ducks hanging in the window. The inside of the restaurant has had all it's space used most efficiently, all the tables one can place but with enough space to not be sitting knee-to-knee and give some... More

A must to go and have some food here. Place is famous due to a movie with the name "Oysters at Nam Kee". Indeed the oysters are great, but also the other food is very good and authentic chinese. In thr weekends you have to wait, dur to limited tables. Staff is friendly and prices are very reasonable.

We were told that this was the best Chinese restaurant in Amsterdam. Well, yes and no. You will likely have to stand in line for a while to get in. The tables are crowded together, and there is no ambiance to the restaurant. Now, the food was great....we ordered spring rolls, sweet and sour chicken, steamed white rice, and chicken... More

We were last here over twenty years ago. It was great then, and it's great now. Still a bit tight inside, however the decor is upgraded. They turn their tables quickly, and the food is fantastic. Decent prices. Efficient staff. We'll go back again - a lot sooner than 20 years!

My husband and I always come here while in Amsterdam. It is a no frills Chinese restaurant near the Buddhist temple on Zeedijk. The staff isn't exactly what you would call welcoming but the food is good and reasonably priced in an interesting area of Amsterdam. It's usually packed on weekends, especially in the evenings, so we try to time... More

Heard from some people and read some of the reviews that was suppose to be good. Thus, my experience is like other and otherwise. Staffs service is good but not the foods. I wouldn't recommend any Chinese or Asians that love Chinese foods to go. Mainly is meant for ang moh.

We went there to try Peking Duck. I ordered Duck with Rice..It was just a bed of steamed rice topped with large chunks of duck pieces. The duck was tasteless,so was the broth. Was unable to eat most of the stuff. Left the place with both heart and tummy empty.

We've been here a few times including with my father in law who is Chinese. Usually the food is tasty. This time though we were very disappointed. The ginger sauce for the steamed chicken was totally tasteless. The Peking Duck was far too fatty and the sauce bland and watery. Service was OK, as in not rude, but still it's... More

I love this place - so down to earth and amazing food. When you get seated you might get put on a random table with other diners but that is all part of the fun. Amazing food and cheap prices. Definetly a local favourite

The restaurant is famous in the Netherlands due to its appearance in the Dutch movie "De oesters van Nam Kee". It's located in the middle of the small Chinatown of Amsterdam. It also has the typical Chinatown appearance: roasted ducks hanging in front of the window, a Spartan interior, fluorescent lamps. Considering the look of the restaurant, you don't want... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
