Any regular in Zermatt knows, the man is the most unfriendly person in Zermatt. But he doesn´care. But you can have a soup, drink on the terace, self service, and enjoy the view.

If you will compare this place with other mountain restaurants like @Paradise or the restaurant in Blatten, well, please don't. Set the right expectations to visit this place, otherwise you will be disappointed. Neither friendly and caring service nor scrumptious and various menu are to...be expected, but "only" a terrace with really stunning view of the Matterhorn where you can enjoy some really basic food (soup, bread and cheese, homemade cakes), a good drink and relax after the quite easy and very enjoyable walk from Sunnegga to Tuftenalp. We were here with a 1-year old kid and our little dog, and we enjoyed the scenery and our drink, despite feeling that this place could do so much better in with some more love, passion and design/style, but we guess the owners want to keep it 'low-maintenance' and are happy to offer only a basic experience. Don't expect too much, otherwise you would be disappointed.More
The review by James A. Is still accurate. I’ve been many times while skiing, this was the first time in summer though. In winter you have to go inside to get the food, however in summer it’s basically waiter service. The owner was very friendly,...and the apple pie is as good as ever. It’s cheap and cheerful with an excellent panorama of the Matterhorn. The cheese sandwich is two slabs of bread, two slabs of local cheese, and butter. Perfect. It’s a cheap place which is rare in Zermatt. In winter they feed the deer which is a nice spectacle. I much prefer this place over most of the other mountain self service type restaurants.More
Avoid! Proprietors are a-holes, and menu is crap. Ski on to Cervo where the food and service are amazing.
This place is a shame for the Swiss mountains. The two men running the place are most unfriendly, inconsiderate and much too expensive for what they offer. When ordering the sausage and cheese plate with bread there was one little butter with it. My husband...went inside to ask for another little butter (packed in a portion of ca. 10g) he was asked to pay ONE Swiss Franc for it while the butter was almost thrown at him. Serving tea and coffee in a one-way styropor cup is just a no go these days.More
Not for coffee lovers with enormous price for a tiny coffee in a Styrofoam cup and a pod of creamer. Bought in apple cake which was fine. BUT friendly service and amazing views with clean restroom. Absolutely welcome on your trek. Gorgeous place to stop
Nice place with a good view. Food is greate and service is good also. Could be better pricing but it´s Switzerland! :-)
Bad service, bad food et Worst welcoming. The guy is not pleasant. We can find better restaurants in zermatt station.
As other reviewers have pointed out, this is not a typical mountain restaurant and has a very limited menu of soup, bread, cheese, sausages and apple cake. It feels like stepping back in time and we enjoyed it on that basis. The soup and cheese...in particular were really good....and the views from the terrace are amazing. There is a decent choice of drinks and compared to other places nearby the prices are reasonable. Definitely worth a stop....even if just for a drink and to admire the view.More
Only stop here if you want to have a truly mountain hut experience. Soup. Bread, cheese & beer/ wine & cake for afters - perfect & an unrivalled view of the mountains. Occasionally chamois come in to graze nearby & can be photographed easily. This...is away from the usual lunch spots in Zermatt, but well worth a visit.More
I come back here every year for the last 20 years. It is the last affordable hut around Zermatt and is perfect if you just want to get a fast meal. There is no need to wait, just grab a beer with some cheese and...sausage and head to the Terrace. The sunny terrace offers an amazing view and offers shelter from the wind. After that you can continue to enjoy the slopes. If you’re looking for a nice and fancy meal I suggest you to go to Findel where there are tons of great restaurants. But if you want a simple, fast and affordable meal, the Tufernalp is the place to go. I’ve always been treated respectfully but you don’t have to expect to be pampered. Last I would like to thank the owner to stay true to themselves and not to convert the Tufernalp to another fancy restaurant. See you next winter.More
I have never rated a place as low as this one. No one expects fine food at a restaurant set in a meadow. Expectations should be low. Simple good quality food would be a pleasant surprise. Here the apple pie was very nice but the...owners were truly awful. The view is lovely but the experience leaves a bad taste in the mouth. For amusement I read the reviews here on Trip Advisor and saw that others had been denied extra forks and had found the owners to be really, really bad. There is no excuse for this. If they hate what they do so much why not find someone PLEASANT to run the place for them. I advise that hungry hikers run (don't walk) past this place!More
No soap in the toilets. They said that in the mountains you don't need soap. And they are preparing food with such a hands. Very unpolite and everything is not nice. Not so cheap.
Firstly let's set your expectations, this is not a "restaurant", it's an outdoor self service bar (converted cow shed) which only serves drinks and four very simple food items if you are hungry. So why on earth go here? 1. It is incredibly cheap to...get a drink and a snack when skiing the mega-reds off the Rothorn, the restaurant is where pistes 9 and 15 join at Tufteren 2. You will I promise ave an extra drink just to stare at the view of the Matterhorn from your table which is one of the best around. Why is is so cheap? There are only two employees (well owners) who are enterprising farmer brothers, one collects trays and empties from the simple outside tables, if you say hello and smile at him he is lovely. The other operates the shed come bar counter with five implements: 1.a huge pan which contains hot minestrone soup made from a packet, 2.a deli-slicer to cut either the huge loaf of bread, the monster cheese block or small dried sausages 3. a bottle opener come corkscrew if you want wine or beer 4. a knife to slice apple cake 5. a cash wallet for change (forget paying with a card) You will gather from above there are only four dishes on the menu, soup, dried sausage with bread, cheese with bread and apple pie! We had a bottle of very good Fendant white wine, a very basic minestrone soup and very good cheese with very good bread. So lunch cost 34 swiss for the lot which is stupidly cheap for Swiss mountains. They sell very good Weisbeer in large bottles if prefer your tipple wth hops and barley. But the magic begins after you shuffle to your table with your tin tray and sit down to see the mountain, it's hilarious watching everybody here just stare at the mountain in between sips, look at our picture to see why and enjoy. Points to remember: If you want a gourmet lunch break save up around CHF150 and go somewhere else nearby. Go visit this place, it's fun.More
What can I say about the tufternalp?? It has got to be the worst mountain restaurant we have visted! The first time we visited Zermatt was for my sister in law's wedding. I think they are two brothers, but there's nothing chuckle about them. My...sister and brother in law wanted to share their (world famous!!) "cheese and soup", but chuckle brother number 1 descended on us and grabbed the second spoon and shouted; "One soup, one spoon" They sell their own sausages and the view can be great, but I reall wouldnt advise you calling in. Incidently they had their wedding reception at Chez Vrony (which is fabulous)More
