Had the filet of beef that was tender and cooked to perfection. Escargot was delicious and dinner was topped off with a raspberry sorbet with pomegranate and chocolate/caramel sauce that was to die for!

Had dinner there, we had a late booking and we were looked after as if we had all night. They have some great local dishes, try the White Wine Soup. They are really proud of their Swiss cuisine. For those visiting it might be important to know that one of the owners is a native English speaker and is great... More

Zum alten Stephan is my favourite restaurant in Solothurn. It combines a cosy atmosphere with high level Swiss cuisine, which is a combination of traditional local specialities with a french inspiration. On a hot summer day you can chose the shadow of the little terrace. I personally do prefer visis in automn because of the saisonal dishes. I love the... More

This place really is superb. The atmosphere around the place is nice and relaxed with the lovely Irish woman overlooking the service. She was clearly busy but yet still had time to make us laugh and have a chat. The guys serving food all working together like clockwork yet with a laid back and charming attitude, you can tell they... More

Outstanding chef! Unbeatable watermelon soup with passion fruit mousse and steamed shrimps (!) Juicy meat! Great products, to start with, associated with great cooking! Prices consistent with a usual Swiss style, not that higher than standard restaurants...but you gain so much higher quality! Highly recommended!

My husband and I are traveling Switzerland. We were in lovely Solothurn and were advised by the locals to try Restaurant Zum Alten Stephan. A charming building in the middle of old town, extremely professional staff and excellent service greeted us right away. We were seated and were treated with excellent food and wine during the entire dining experience. We... More

What a place, it's fabulous. The initial view of the exterior to da welcoming staff in the interior. Food was top class, couldn't be better. Swiss wines to accompany our food. Staff were very efficient, helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend. Can't wait to go back again.

The most important upfront, the Gourmet restaurant does not exist anymore as the previous will-rated cook (Andy Zaugg) left end of 2015. The restaurant "Zum Alten Stephan" does now only consists of the "Stadtbeiz" (= city pub). We lived in Solothurn about a decade ago when we had been there often and went again recently. To our surprise, the menu... More

My first time trying the pork cordon bleu & it's very tasty! Warm fresh bread & a very refreshing chef salad makes my day in this beautiful town of Solothurn.

During a recent stay in Solothurn we wanted to have a nice dinner with family and after doing a bit of research, we found Zum Alten Stephan and from all the reviews this seemed great. And we were in no way disappointed. From the arrival at the restaurant till we left, everything was amazing. The most beautiful Amuse Bouche (Melon... More
