We found this little place tucked away. Unassuming at first sight but we wandered in to see what the place had to offer. We were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome and lovely background music. The waiter was friendly had time for a chat. The food was fresh, hot and very tasty. The house wine was very palatable. All told... More

We found Il Barroccio to be a treasure. The food was delicious and the service was wonderful. The owner was so kind, it was raining and he ordered us cab to get us back to the station. A most wonderful experience.

I discovered this gem of a restaurant about 20 years ago and I've dined here almost every time I've visited ever since. It's been over ten years since my last visit to Florence, but I'll make sure to include it in my itinerary on my next visit...which is in a few weeks! This little restaurant close to the Duomo possesses... More

Overall a nice experience. We went for an early dinner at 645pm. The waiter was welcoming and suggested a wine for us to drink-- a delicious red. I don't remember the name of the bottle, but it went down smoothly! We wanted the carpaccio, but when we ordered it, it was no longer available. The waiter suggested another meat dish--... More

Repeated visits have led me to believe this is "the little restaurant that could," authentic tuscan food, friendly personal service, reasonable prices and an ever improving environment. Because of the owners hard work and perseverance and this establishment is a true gem amongst the plethora of Florentine restaurant choices.

We have travelled to Naples, Caserta, Rome and this is the best meal we have had (and we have had some excellent experiences). Away from the busy piazzas but within easy reach, the food was exceptional - we had the risotto and a prawn pasta for our first course and sliced beef with mozerella and tomatoes for our main -... We found this restaurant by chance looking for somewhere away from the crowds on a sightseeing day in Florence. We started off planning on just having a bottle of prosecco and a sit down but were tempted by the appetisers and shared 3 between us - bruschetta, crostini and melon and Parma ham. All delicious and lovely service from very... More

We came to dine here before going to Teatro Verdi. The service was fast, food was OK and apparently many locals also dine here. There might be better options food-wise, but this is the perfect stop before going to a concert!

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
