Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wow! The food is simply amazing and there's a really great selection of both traditional and non-traditional dishes. The wine list is very extensive too. The host is very friendly and welcoming and there's a great view from the outside tables. I'd come back to Cortona just to visit this restaurant again.

The food is incredible! It is created with wonderful care, idea and taste!
We loved it so much we came back the next day!!
The staff is great and efficace. The owner and his wife (who is the fantastic cook) are extremely attentive to the clients and are very nice!
Everybody seem to be doing their job with passion and to love it!
The place is done with great care and taste as well.
Nothing is left aside!
As food lovers, we recommend it with all our hearts!!

That might not be true as I haven’t tried them all but this bistro is a hidden gem just off the main tourist street.
We peeled off from the main group who wanted to enjoy the view from the tourist trap restaurant at the top of the hill - you can’t miss it, but you must - it’s the first one you’ll see when you’ve parked up and walked towards the old town. Cortona Bistot is on Via Margerita just off to the right at the beginning of the main drag.
I worked my way right through the seasonal specials; delicious venison and the tenderest duck, cooked by the proprietress and her team.
The wine is of course wonderful and the owner really took care of us.
I would say booking is essential.
I should add there are a few outside tables with a gorgeous outlook but it’s warm and cosy inside for the cooler months.
When we rejoined our group at the restaurant with the panoramic view they were having sad looking puddings…

I believe that the wife is a chef and the husband runs the front of house in this very small restaurant in Cortona. We were warmly greeted when we arrived and treated very well. We had a fonduta starter that was a little different than what we have had before. Absolutely amazing. Then we had two homemade pastas that were also delicate and a little different than traditional Tuscan cuisine. Just a little twist and it was wonderful. Good wine list, of course. The space is small and intimate. Very enjoyable evening.

We were in Cortona on December 31st, we booked a table for 6, 4 adults and 2 children. From the first moment we were struck by the attention to detail in the restaurant, furnished with vintage objects but done with taste. Open kitchen where in addition to delighting our taste buds, we had an experience of aromas coming from the kitchen, while our dishes were being prepared. We had a great time, excellent food. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! We will be back 👍🏻

I can’t quite say enough about this incredible place! Not just favorite food in Cortona but best food we had in Italy. This is a must stop if in Tuscany. Loved the service and ambience! Only open Fri-Sun in off season so make a reservation

While traveling around Italy my wife and I spent 2 nights in Cortona. We tried Cortona Bistrot based on the reviews and were not disappointed. A cozy beautiful spot and amazing food. The restaurant is run by a family who provide impeccable service, a unique menu and quality in every aspect of the meal. Fine dining at a truly reasonable price. I had a lasagna with pesto and sausage and pistachio. Amazing. My wife had lamb stewed in an artichoke crème. Also amazing. Truly satisfying

This is such a quirky little place, the decor is unbelievably creative and special and the food is wonderful - not a huge menu, but between our party of 9 we tried most things and without exception it was brilliant. The owner and his wife (the chef) were charming. Gutted we found this on the last night of our holiday!! Reason enough to come back to Cortona - seriously.

A truly peaceful and pleasant dinner. There are not many tables inside and this allows you to talk with diners and friends. Davide the owner is very affable and kind and does not pressurize himself in choosing the order. We had a very good hamburger because it was made with roasted potatoes with artisanal Tuscan bread. Instead I had a very tasty and tasty egg with truffle and pecorino cheese and a gota with puree. All fresh and served at the moment. The kitchen is open so it is easy to see the preparation in the kitchen.
In short, to return. The prices are normal also because being a place with few tables it is a bit exclusive and this also justifies the price.

Dined here at a table outside, overlooking the Val di Chiana at sunset. Very romantic! Our host was attentive and helpful. The food was bistro style & freshly prepared by his wife, and was absolutely delicious. She is a talented chef!

This was our first restaurant meal during our two weeks in Tuscany (three weeks in Italy), and was by far one of the best. That's both the good news and the bad news, because it was so delicious, but it also set the bar very high for the other restaurants we visited throughout our stay. It was one of few that we returned to, in fact. I had the spinach gnudi with truffles BOTH times, it's that good. My son had the baccalá both times as well, absolutely outstanding. The service was friendly if slow; they should really hire someone to help with the table service, as it was the owner/husband all by himself and while the place is small, it gets very busy and we had some long-ish waits for stuff. Sadly we were never able to get a table outside, but inside was fine, too. A VERY good restaurant–not to be missed.

We had our final dinner here; unless you reserve early, all tables on the terrace with a nice view are gone, but the inside table was fine. Very good steak this time (it was too hot on previous visit for me to eat meat), very good torta caprese. Both waiters very nice, although sometimes service was a bit slow as the restaurant had many guests. We'll be back!

Why did we choose this venue? Because it was the only one on a hot August day that seemed out of the box and out of chaos despite being a few meters from the center but along an uphill road that leads to the sanctuary of Santa Margherita; furthermore we were in the company of our large dog and the tables outside seemed like the right place even if much warmer than inside the well-furnished place.
I don't have much material to review the cuisine but I think that having taken one dish each and getting them all right is an excellent sign.
The owner is very kind and informed us that the queen of the kitchen is his wife and I don't doubt it because my tartare was perfect with his definitely homemade mustard; the same goes for the rest of the dishes. The possibility of choosing between the craft beers of the "Canenero" agricultural brewery was also appreciable, I took a very balanced and really tasty white one which was served to me with the bottle wrapped in its anti-heat "coat", small details that make the difference.
Reasonable and not expensive price

Original venue in its overall furnishings, courteous and punctual service. However, since the room is small, the spaces do not allow privacy or even movement. Decent menu and wine list although not special. I ate something not special...Tagliata with side dishes, baked potatoes and green beans. Good potatoes, frozen green beans and served cold on the plate, cut rather fat and with nerves. The review is therefore limited to just one dish.

Cortona Bistrot
Scusi Camillo,

Super recommended! Small, well-kept, family-run place. In addition to having eaten very well, we were struck by the kindness and helpfulness of the owner, in the dining room, and of his wife, in the kitchen. Between one slalom and another, they also welcomed our large dog! Not to be missed!!!
