Had a lovely seafood lunch here overlooking the canal. Waiters and service very good. Very relaxed and sat enjoying a good wine after our meal without feeling hurried to move on. Would highly recommend.

Food here was fine, nothing super special. We just got some appetizers to sit next to the grand canal and had a really enjoyable time with that. Not sure I'd eat a whole meal here, but well worth $20 to hang out for a while.

A disaster.... Very expensive and quality was not good at all. Starter was ok, but I took a tartare, with almost no preparation. The excuse was it proved the quality of the meat, but.... No way. Not too much quantity and as I said above, not too much quality. Nice place, but very expensive. I think there are better places.

We had john dory filet that was probably frozen some 5 years ago, "luckily" old fish was freshened up with raw potatoes. Taste and texture was just terrible. I would rather have a big mac then go trough this one more time. Also, this culinary crime is quite expensive, so just avoid it.

Let's say the location is really nice, the sundowner out on both sides is solid, the restaurant upstairs is supernice, the service as well while not the most professional one, the food in the restaurant is average.

Our first night in Venice and we came upon this place for our first ciccetti. Very tasty it was too. Quite a trendy place, plenty of locals, with the usual two stools in the campo facing area. Wine good. Friendly staff, what more do you want? Campo has great ambience too, very close to the Rialto bridge and market areas.... More

We went to that restaurant on Christmas eve and took lobster spaghetti. We're still looking for lobster ! Instead of lobster, we got meatballs. Definitely a place to avoid in Venezia !

My first day in Venice, it was raining, the water was high, flooding over the banks of the Grand Canal, so that the touristic restaurants had preserved their outdoor seating with plastic canopies and "tourist menus" -- none of which appealed to me, so I went to the other side of the Rialto bridge, where the water was so high... This is our last whole day in Venice and we were out walking again. Headed over to the Rialto Bridge and found Al Pesador on the Grand Canal. While we were waiting for our food and enjoying a beer, I looked at TA reviews. Some of them were horrible! My tuna salad(12E) was superb. Heavy on the tuna, olives, tomatoes... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
