I love this place on many levels - but especially because, in spite of it's amazing position and fabulous interior, you can still stand at the bar and have a coffee like the Italians, and it is a fraction of the price of the "table price". In fact it is one of the best price cappuccinos and certainly one of... More

While visiting Venice we spent an evening at Quadri (upstairs restaurant). From the first welcome we received we knew this would be a top experience. The staff were very friendly, and experts in their field. The menu and the wines are nothing short of outstanding. If you would like an extra special dessert try the hazelnut ice-cream parfait. Have the... More

The Lob-Star sandwich was better value than the pot of tea. All served beautifully in a spectacular location. Expensive but well worth the experience and everything was delicious.

We realized that we were about to dine in St. Mark's square and that the prices would reflect that.. However, a continental breakfast for four people ended up coming to be $200. The food was wonderful and everything was perfect, but you are paying for that and a bit more. Prosciutto was a little fatty to our liking.

Sat here and drink a Bellini whiling looking st San Marco and listening to live music. You can stay standing and listen to music without paying 21 euro for a Bellini. Free wifi and live music maybe worth it though. And no one asks you to leave you can sit for a few hours uninterrupted.

The temperature was cool but not cold. The skys were clear but sporadically lite by blue sparks. 3 bands were taking turns playing on St. Mark's Square. Our simple but delicious supper was satisfying and even of good value. It simply was M A G I C A L !

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
