What a great place to come and get some small plates and some great wine. Life in Venice is so much better with a little wine and a small plate.

Came here as we wanted somewhere quiet and not too touristy and this was perfect. We had a half carafe of really good quality house white followed by bruschetta with Parma ham and spinach and ricotta balls. Really tasty food and fabulous friendly service. Highly recommended.

I wanted to have light lunch at All Arco but when we got there, place was closed...don't know the reason. Then we saw this restaurant right across the alley way. But, this was a big mistake. Trippa smelled like it was made long time ago. There were many Japanese tourist at the front part of the restaurant. Because, this place... More

Along with the best name for a bar, "the Sacred and Profane" can lay claim to some of the tastiest cicchetti and regional wines and spirits to be found in Venice. And "found" is the key word, because this inconspicuous little joint is off the proverbial beaten path. You'll recognize it by the handwritten menu on the front wall and... More

We liked so much this osteria, great prices, you can drink a nice pinot white wine glass for 2.5€. Remember, in Venice they charge you extra if you take a sit to drink your wine, coffee, etc. If you just stay up at the bar is cheaper. We didn't eat but another customer was eating a lasagna and it looked incredible!... More

...this place is essentially venetian...mysterious and charming. We found it quite by accident, as happens on visits to Venice, and for lunch, we dined on cicchetti - basically Italian Tapas - accompanied by some fine local red wine. The interior somehow wouldn't look out of place in a Harry Potter movie - and very atmospheric. The staff were charming and... More

After spending the morning walking around Venice on a guided tour, we needed a rest and food. We decided to move away from St Marks Square and the very touristy bars and restaurants. We stumbled upon this little gem. We were luckily enough to sit outside in a small type of alleyway. The food was great, so was the wine... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
