Hands down best meal we had on our trip to Italy. I have been spoiled when it comes to many Italian foods from working in a rustic Italian trattoria in the US called Sotto. The food here was amazing and the service was friendly and passionate. Additionally, there was excellent attention to detailed that added to the experience, such as the type of flatware, to the plating of dishes, to the quality checks throughout the experience, without being pretentious. The service was professional, yet approachable and welcoming, which is hard to master. The younger male server was being coached and mentored by another gentleman throughout the evening, who also assisted in service. Also, the cooks and buss staff stopped by the tables periodically. It was clear the staff was in it as a team to ensure their guests had the optimal experience. Bravo!

Wonderful experience. Each dish was inventive, delicious and wonderful. I don’t think this place caters to tourists as the menu isn’t translated, but the waiter helped us and was a real treat. I liked that we were the only Americans in the small place. Family of 5 - three glasses of wine and a full meal for about 200 euros. A value for this wonderful meal!

We were going to the opera in the square and hadn't booked a table for dinner. The waiters were brilliant. The menu was only in Italian but don't let that put you off. The waiter translated for us and then asked us what kind of food we liked and pointed out options to suit. The food and services was simple wonderful. Excellent value for money and service.

Conflicted with this review as we had good food we were forgiving of multiple little issues, but ultimately the night ended on a very sour note as felt we were being taken advantaged of come time to pay. We booked ahead. It seemed busy but walk-ups were being seated outside in front of us and 2 other parties who had resos had to wait. I’m not sure why the would seat a walk up in the last seat available when they had 3 more bookings at that time. Us and two other parties who had reservations were kept standing outside waiting while there were seats inside not offered to us. I would prefer outside anyways but still found that strange that option was not offered. As the wait approached 10 or maybe 15 minutes past our reso time the waiter gave us a glass of bubbly and all was forgiven. I would have been on my way to a great review with the food. Eventually around 15/20 after we were seated. We tried to order the risotto and it was not available. We then tried to order the veal and it wasn’t available. He offered us a dish not on the menu and I really enjoyed it, my spouse thought it was fine. The rest of the food was great. The one waiter did all tables so it was slow service but we enjoyed wine and he was apologetic, that was fine still. We still were making the best of it. Until the end, when he asked us to pay in cash and when we said we had card only, he told us the credit card machine wasn’t working. We had watched others pay earlier by card. He suggested my husband walk down a dark alley to an ATM machine to get cash. That didn’t work and both cards were rejected. Then his credit card machine all of a sudden started working afterwards. Our debit card was frozen after that for the following day. We had to call the bank to alert them and put a notice on our card. I was really disappointed as we had been quite forgiving of all the the little mishaps along the way, felt bad he seemed as busy as he did, and the food was good but it felt like at the end we were taken advantage of because we were quite easy going played into this (and it being late, us being tourists who ordered wine). I would advise tourist take caution. I would have refused to go to the ATM and in retrospect feel silly for having done so.

We went here for an evening meal as it was rated no1 in Dosoduro on trip advisor, but to start the waiter was very unfriendly and unwelcoming, pointed us to a table with a grunt. When we asked for a bottle of Prosecco from the Prosecco list we were told that it was not real, but the more expensive one was. Food was nothing amazing, just ok. We were not asked if everything was ok, did we want dessert, etc… just another number. Felt more like a place for lunch than a lovely dining experience. I would not recommend.

The best restaurant in Dorsoduro. The food and service is unmatched. The best scallops I have ever tasted. The restaurant is a hidden gem among others that are more expensive and less of an atmosphere that you need after a long day walking around. Marco made us feel relaxed and engaged with the food giving great suggestions and humour along the way. If you want top quality food with an experience you won’t forget, this is the place. Don’t be fooled by its humble appearance - you do not want to miss this incredible restaurant. Don’t waste your time elsewhere.

Best food in Venice. This was a great meal. Everything was fresh, hand selected, and perfectly prepared. The attention to detail, from the tablecloths to the flatware to the selection and preparation of ingredients was impeccable. All in a very welcoming, relaxing setting.

I was in Venice for three nights, and I went to Garden Bistrot on two of those! Garden Bistrot is a family run business, led by Marko, and it shows with its dedication to serving great food and providing high quality service. I was eating solo and I did not have enough time to pick up my phone between courses and sipping on my wine; the service and food were that good. I had the Seabass Tortellini and Bruschetta as starters and the Tuna Steak and Chateaubriand as main meals. All meals were fantastic, and it was clear that quality local ingredients were used, particularly the seafood. The Chateaubriand was a highlight, as Marko cooked it in front of me at my table and it was exactly to my liking (the roasted potatoes served with it were perfectly seasoned and crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside). Garden Bistrot is located in a square that is away from better-known tourists spots, which makes for a great atmosphere when dining outside where you can get a bit more of a local vibe while enjoying your delicious meal. They also have a great selection of wines from various Italian regions, including Tuscany, Piedmont, and Veneto. I will definitely be back when I return to Venice!

After a great family long week-end in Venezia, we were looking for a special place for the last dinner. We had tried other restaurants in Campo Santa Margaritha, but we had not noticed Garden Bistrot before. A friendly waiter informed us that they had both fish and meat on the menu, as well as gluten free food. The friendly atmosphere in the small restaurant immediately made us confiddent that this was the right place for us. We ordered seabass, lamb chops and glutenfree pasta. When the seabass was cooked, it was prepared at the table next to us with vegetables and a lovely blue sauce of olive oil and basil. The reccomended sauvignon white wine was a greta choice. The head waiter was joking with our two teenagers, and we enjoyed the dinner. We were the last guests to leave the restaurant, and could walk home to the rented apartment in a very good mood. Thank you for a great night, Garden Bistrot! Happy family of four from Oslo, Norway

We visited Venice on a beautiful winter day, cold weather with a pleasant sun. Visiting this city in the low season was wonderful in terms of getting around, we walked through the city's alleys and took the gondola ride without any crowds. But I realized that in the low season some restaurants close and a Via Crucis begins to find a restaurant with good food, good value and a beautiful view. We decided not to have a nice view, especially because these restaurants are not very affordable. So I went online and saw a tip from a Brazilian about 10 good and reasonably priced restaurants in Venice. Garden Bistro was one of them. But I confess that it was a disappointment... We arrived at 2pm for lunch, the restaurant had only one person inside doing some maintenance, a not very friendly waiter and the cook who was at a table outside, who came in when we entered. We ordered four different dishes. My daughter ordered a lasagna that I'm sure was microwaved, horrible, in very little quantity and disproportionately priced. My son ordered good octopus, I ordered a poorly made carbonara and my husband ordered pasta with seafood, which arrived meager, with almost no seafood. What saved it was the wine we chose. That was the only disappointment in Venice. My experience in the most beautiful city in Italy could have been perfect, but it wasn't...

Absolutely wonderful meal in Venice! The waiter who is related to the chef by marriage recommended the Seabass stuffed homemade ravioli. It was incredible and one of the best meals in Italy I had. Aside from the food, the atmosphere was great! This is a beautiful place to eat and enjoy Venice. Be sure to go during a Venice visit!

Amazing food at a family-owned restaurant! We have had some great food on this trip but today’s lunch at Garden Bistrot was our best meal. We were served by the charming co-owner of the restaurant who guided our food choices and proudly let us know that the chef is his wife (lucky guy!) We plan on returning tomorrow evening for dinner and will be sure to make a reservation as this gem of a restaurant gets booked up each night. Don’t waste your time at the bigger, splashier eateries nearby…go straight to Garden Bistrot and enjoy an amazing meal!

we went quit early at 6pm and there was no-one else seated. The waiters were offhand and urged us to sit outside in 33 degrees rather than inside with the aircon. We made our order but it was nearly an hour before the food arrived. We think they were taking the mickey and/or using us as protracted bait to attract other diners. Food was quite good but waiting a pointless hour when we were the only ones there for most of the time was unacceptable.

Our group of 13 had a lovely dinner outside at Garden Bistrot during our stay in Venice. Our food, wine and cocktails were fantastic. Two of us shared pasta with seafood and grilled monkfish after shared group appetizers — all delicious!! The seating outside is perfect and the neighborhood is hopping without being noisy and crowded. Amazing spot for dinner in Venice. Marco was a delight — fun, helpful, attentive, professional. He went one step beyond for us — when the skies threatened rain, he quietly let me know that he had set up a table for us inside in case it rained and we needed to run in. Great spot! Highly recommend!

Luckily we made the choice to eat here because it was amazing! It's a recently opened restaurant. You could see the waiters are passionate in what they are doing and they know what they are talking about. The food was great, very fresh! Prices are normal as well, not too expensive. Would definitely come here again if I'm in Venice :)

Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
