We found this place wondering through the streets, it has a nice ambiance, we had the cold cuts of Italian cheeses and meats to start and 2 prima piatto of pasta not cheap at €61 with a bottle of wine but content.

Mediocre food. Poor service. And hidden "service" charges - 2.50 pp cover then 14% added to the total bill for service. No mention of the charges on the outside menu. The only time it is shown is in tiny print on the cover of the indoor menu - which the waiter doesn't let you see as he opens the menu... More

The 10 Euro cover charge plus mandatory 14% service charge added 25% to our bill. Some very average pizza and pasta came to 100 Euros, for 2 adults and 2 young children.

I wish we'd read the reviews before visiting. Our food (pasta) was nice enough, but as well as the €2.50 cover charge, they add 14% service charge to the bill. This isn't made clear before you order, but is in very small print on the front of the menu.

We paid €67 euros for our food and was charged a €5 cover charge and a €10 service charge which didn't even go to the waiters and were told we have to pay it. It's a total ripoff! It is not clearly stated either on their menu or at the front door or by the waiter that we would be... More

Ordered two dishes of pasta. It was both overcooked. It was definately no Carbonata like it shall be. No value for money!

Don't go!!! The waiters are ok but all the rest is not! The food is of bad quality! Not Italian! Worst pizza we ever ate, the dough was cement! The pasta was strange. It looks really cosy from the outside but in the inside they hide the kitchen with a little curtain like at Chinese restaurants, that's a no-go for... More

We went in this restaurant and later checked trip advisor to see a 2* review Appreciating that you pay 2.50 each table charge and then 14% service ( this is not compulsory btw) the food was excellent, the atmosphere was lovely and we even got a Polaroid to remember the night 😀 We order the lobster pasta and it was... Had luncheon here, lasagna, ham pizza, caprice salad and a bottle of red wine. It was fresh, tasty and one of the best pizza's I've had while in Venice . The bill came to €52 which is good value considering other restaurants. Cosy atmosphere, a great place to sit back and relax with a glass of wine. We weren't charged... More

Let me say that all restaurants in Venice charge 'coperto', whether you like it or not. 2,50 a person is already an amount you don't see in a lot of restaurants, at least not the cheaper ones. There was no sign at all saying that this had to be paid. But again, pretty normal. But charging a 14% service charge... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
