This is rated the 6th best restaurant in Venice and now I know why -- it's amazing! Those 5 or 6 tables next to the water on a quiet, non touristy street are magical. And the food is outstanding. We wanted all seafood so we got: Sardines anti-pasta, Pasta with mixed seafood, and the star -- the TURBO fish for two. 66 Euros but it was a special fish and ANDREW took his time expertly fileting it right at our table so no bones. Would come back here again and the whole night was special. Thank you to LUIGI as well who took care of us and was always smiling. First class service, food, and atmosphere -- and we loved the Panna Cotta desert too.

I just love this place, as I sit in this beautiful picture-postcard view listening to live piano enjoying my delicious food I feel like a princess in the city of love. The food is fresh with great flavour the many options of wine have me stuck on which one to drink. I want to try everything in here!! The waiters are very friendly and welcoming. Dion one of the waiters is so sweet and handsome I think he took my heart :) Jennifer is just amazing she makes you feel right at home, she’s also very smart, beautiful and can speak 7 different languages!! The chef is the best I’ve experienced while being here. I’ll definitely be coming back when I visit Venice again 👌🏽👌🏽 (Must try) five star restaurant!

I and my wife stayed in Venice for 3 nights and we went to this restaurant 2 times the food was excellent especially salmon tartar and baked sea bass. I would like to recommend to make a reservation otherwise you have to wait to take a table or yo can be disappointed. Additionally stuf is very friendly especially the waitress is very helpful and polite. We strongly recommend to go there and enjoy Italian food

We visited Del Codega for our final meal in Venice after reading the good reviews. We were left extremely disappointed (and I never leave bad reviews!).
Our starter of Mussels were the smallest mussels we have ever seen after quite a wait (30mins).
We then waited another 1 hour and 10 minutes for our two simple pasta dishes and had to ask for them twice. Finally our dishes arrived at 10:15pm (we were seated at 8:20pm) and they were very basic and quite tasteless served in ice cold plates.
The staff were very apologetic (although very slow) and didn't even notice we had no drinks after an hour of empty glasses. After we complained about our huge wait we had the mains taken off the bill by the staff who explained of a lack kitchen staff however this did not absolve the extremely disappointing experience for our final meal in Venice.

Thank you for your feed back we apologize for the delay of your plats as we explained to you that we were completely full and all the reservations was in the same time and it was so hard to make more than 60 different plats in same time as we prepare everything thing freshly in the same moment, and a kind of apology we took off your mains from the bill , for the mussels and clames we buy everyday the fresh ones we find in the market , we apologize again and hope to see you in another time , we respect your critics as they help us to improve of ourselves

If you dont care about waiting 47 min for the first plate, 30 for the second plate. And they dont care for responsibily (ability to give a response), and the employees pull your leg. This IS the place to be. After waiting all that time, first response was that they served fish and the grill was dirty of fish and had to reject the tomahawk. I had to stand Up and go to bar , ask for the owner or responsible of the business. The anwser,.was that melanzane takes 30min and tomahawk a while. I said that the melanzine took 47 minutes (sitting time was 21.00) and that was not reasonable. And the waiting about fish in the grill was not aceptable, I uphold, either the Cooker was new, or they where lying. Then, for complaining I got a second response that the tomahawk (medium raw was ordered) takes a long time. When you get to wait 77 minutes to have your Main course on the table and what you find is far away an ability to have responsability or compromise with the client and the place where you work, but a cocky response, It made a disgusting night. For the sake of Justice, I have to say that the owner later came, invited to a bottle of wine, there was good intentions. Perhaps i am to old , but i got home with a sour feeling and piss off.

I have just had an exceptional 3 course lunch with sparkling water that came in under 30 euros.I had a lovely table right on the small canal that runs alongside the restaurant. The staff were friendly and spoke english. The food was delicious - the sea bream ravioli with fish ragu outstanding. I highly recommend stopping here and savouring the ambience alongside the wonderful food.

We choose this place based on its reviews and we were extremely disappointed. The location is stunning but the staff were all very inexperienced and not overly helpful.
We had to wait over an hour for our main courses and when our steak arrived (a tomahawk for two), it was undercooked, over 50% fat, and extremely chewy. At nearly 200 Euros it was hardly good value either.
Overall we were less than impressed and cannot recommend this establishment to others.

Thanks for your feedback, we apologize that our food didn’t match your expectations but we were expecting to be more fair in judging us and to tell the truth, the long waiting time you was already informed about while taking your order ( not one hour) , the staff was very helpful with you , for the tamahawk steak it was containing 200 g of fats as it’s weighing 1400 g and it’s so normal and when you rejected we took it back and we cut off the fats and we canceled also the fats from your bill ( you paid only 70€ for 1000g not 200€ ) and we have a copy from your bill , the chef and the staff thanks you

My friend and I visited El Codega this evening after a recommendation from our hotel and also after looking at the reviews, we wish we hadn’t bothered! We had booked our table in advance, so didn’t just turn up! After being seated we waited some time for our drinks order to be taken and were told that due to everything being cooked freshly, it may take a little time to receive our dishes. I’d like to take issue with that! Eventually our starters appeared which were fine (although not exciting!) but then there was a long wait for our main courses. In fact, the table next to us who arrived long after we had, got their main courses before us! We noticed that they had ordered the same dishes as my friend and I and we waited another 10 minutes or so, before our mains appeared! My friend’s steak was ‘medium rare’ when she’d asked for it to be ‘well done’ (like the steak on the next table seemed to be!) and we tried to point out that maybe the table next to us had got our food. We were told this was not the case and the waiter took my friend’s steak away. She didn’t receive a freshly cooked steak when it returned (it came back too quickly for that, which was the only time during the evening when the service was prompt!). Unfortunately, we believe the same steak had been put back under the grill and sent back to the table with the original salad garnish and chips which were by now lukewarm and tasted as if they were out of a packet and not freshly prepared at all! In the end the whole meal was inedible as the steak was now tough and impossible to chew, in fact it made my friend feel quite unwell. When we complained, the steak meal was taken off the bill but no apology was forthcoming, so I just asked for the bill and we left.
I know there’s such a high volume of tourists that come through Venice restaurants that are unlikely to return, so one bad review is nothing special but it’s a shame it’s tainted our view of Italian cuisine and hospitality which is the first time we’ve encountered this during many trips to Italy!

We would like to point out that during the high season in Venice the restaurant becomes quite packed so the service unfortunately becomes a bit slow.
As per the steak per se we are sorry it didn't meet your expectations, we always try our best to get the food to the table as perfect as we can.

A good TA score, and ‘off the beaten track’ should be a good combination in Venice, given its largely deserved reputation for rip-offs.
However…..
I waited an hour for my starter to arrive, during which time I not only had to resort to my (stale) breadbasket, but couldn’t help overhearing a German family complain about the service. Mind you I couldn’t help overhear them as they were practically sitting on my lap, as customers were jammed packed into a soulless modern space. Ironic given I had to show a Covid pass to get in.
The food when it came was good/ok. The starter was an excellent salmon tartare, all fresh zingy tastes. The fritto misto main was a bit ordinary, nothing wrong with it, but nothing to get excited about.
Service was poor. After the hour long wait at the start, my server on presenting me with the desert menu asked ‘could I get a move on as he needed the table back’. He got the sharp end of this writers tongue for that one. A hastily plonked down complimentary grappa with my coffee did little to assuage my anger.
All this while babies howled and a bizarre Bella Lugosi lookalike belted out Billy Joel tribute numbers on a miniature organ.
Pricing was good, but given what else was wrong with this place, they should maybe charge a bit more, cram in a few less people, and maybe do something about the characterless ambience.
Both the food and drinks menu opening pages were plastered with ‘like us on social media’ links and QR codes. I think a little more attention to the basics of service and ambience, and less about your ratings, would pay dividends here.

Dear sir , thanks a lot for your kind review, we apologize for the long waiting time for your starter ( not one hour) as we were completely full as you mentioned and we prepare everything freshly momentarily, we accept only reservations in the week ends and feasts and you came without reservation and we greeted you with a smile and accommodated you after checking your green pass ( obligated in italy) . We apologize again that our colleague asked you with a kind way that we need the table because you didn’t know that we do 2 turns and there was people who had reservations and they were waiting and we had to respect there reservations also . The appearance and location are amazing. But the food itself is nothing special, in Venice you can see way better places where locals also go for cheaper prices. It's tempting to go but for the food, just walk to another place!

The food quality was really superb (fresh and delicious) , and we had a very nice hospitality & service from the restaurant staff.. I recommend them once they have a delicious quality with a fair prices and good quantities

We had high hopes for this restaurant based on the many highly regarded reviews. Just a stone’s throw from Wisteria, a Michelin one star Venetian restaurant, Osteria Fanal del Codega seemed promising. Service was extremely slow that evening though we were there for the duration and that did not figure in to our ratings. For us, it is all about the food and contrary to the other descriptions, it was pretty much average. The spaghetti sur mer was the high point while the swordfish ravioli was flat, tasteless, and disappointing. Likewise, the tagliatelle was overcooked and without much taste. The lamb chops were flavorful but were terribly overcooked - well done. The branzino was fresh though it was equally bland. I guess compared to the tourist traps around San Marco, one could consider this restaurant “amazing”, though it was strikingly average or sub par in execution. compared to other restaurants we’ve eaten at in Venice. The waitstaff were youthful, friendly, and helpful and this helped to offset the otherwise lackluster meal.

Regardless of your length of stay in Venice, enjoying the very special and delicious epicurean delights of Jennifer and Joseph at Osteria El Codega should be at the top of your ‘must do’ list.
We had the delight of discovering this wonderful restaurant and meeting these two special people this year (2020). The menu is creative and very reasonably priced. Meals are beautifully presented with an artistic attention to detail. Truly a feast for the eyes and the palate!
While it its true, Venice has several fine restaurants, as do all Italian cities!!!… and previously, in our eight years of traveling to Serenissima we have dined at a few of them, Osteria El Codega stands out from all the rest, not only does it feature superb cuisine, but also because of the caring commitment and devotion Jennifer & Joseph share with their guests. We had wonderful opportunities to dine there on several occasions, each time continuing to explore various selections on their menu and were never disappointed.
Not only do they have excellent culinary skills, but Jennifer & Joseph have a talent for making you feel very welcome, very special and part of their family. On a scale of 1 to 10… Jennifer & Joseph earn 100! Right on, dear folks, keep doing what you are doing, in addition to hosting and creating delicious dining you also create wonderful memories. Kudos!! Looking forward to next year!!!

We ate baked and grilled sea bream both of which were succulent and hugely tasty. The service was friendly and very helpful, and being able to sit outside, alongside the canal, was a much-appreciated bonus. Oh, and the bottle of rose wine was perfectly complimentary to the meal.

In this comparatively secluded spot, the food was delicious and filling. We ordered the mussels/clams and the speciality spaghetti to start, with the baked sea bream (another speciality) to follow. Full of flavour, these dishes more than satisfied both our appetites - especially alongside the bread (included). Our waitress, Jennifer, was very helpful, and advised us on a suitable wine pairing. Especially considering we arrived late in the evening (22:00), we were impressed by the experience.
