We visited Bacareto da Lele as a couple, based on the recommendation of relatives, and loved it! The atmosphere is relaxed, perfect for a quick snack. The Venetian snacks are not only fresh and delicious, but also very cheap – only 1.20 euros for a mini sandwich! The service was fast and friendly. A great place to enjoy delicious local food without wasting much time. Highly recommended!

Very close to Piazzale Roma, it is just a small place of just a few square meters where the service retains the genuine sly and light-hearted Venetian spirit, unlike many other 'bacari' which have now turned into pleasant bars for tourists. Very popular at any time, it offers not many things but all good ones, to be consumed obviously only outside standing or sitting on the steps of the 'bank'. Incredibly for a very expensive city like Venice, here you can have an aperitif by spending negligible amounts: a sandwich costs 1.20 euros, a small tray with 2 pieces of cheese, 6 or 7 'bibanesi' and two large slices of fresh salami costs 1.80 euro, 1 small glass of wine costs 1 euro, and so on. In short, a very pleasant appointment in a popular and authentic 'bacaro' at the price of 2-4 euros.

I had never been to a bacaretto. Cool. This one in particular is very small, it has no places to sit inside or outside (but you can, in a spartan or rather romantic way, sit on the steps on the canal immediately outside the restaurant or even on the steps of the church). Glasses of house wine for €1, spritzes for very little (too bad they don't make Aperol), delicious sandwiches with super fresh cured meats and combinations of dishes with truly excellent flavours. The salami is excellent. Highly recommended for an aperitif or a quick lunch, with €10 you will be devastated like never before. Every time I return to Venice I will stop by.

I have been frequenting this bacareto for over 20 years and I was lucky enough to experience it when the legendary Lele and his son Fabio worked there at the time: two exquisite people for the friendliness and courtesy they reserve for all their customers (regardless of whether they are Venetian or not). . Now the team has expanded but Fabio still remains the spearhead of this little paradise of just a few square meters. Exceptional sandwiches and a typical Venetian atmosphere in which workers, students and people passing by coexist in harmony. I honestly don't understand the few who have left a negative review but it makes me think that they deserve the classic tourist bars with tables in the street, a very wide choice of frozen food and exaggeratedly high prices.

We have been to Venice numerous times and always make a point of starting and/or ending our day of sightseeing (as we did on this trip) with a visit to this tiny bar (it's only 5 minutes/500 M off the Scalzi bridge to the bar). Several friendly guys serve you inexpensive wines, beer and spritz along with simple sandwiches (breakfast /lunch) and snack trays (aperitivo time). On this visit: lunch was 2 small Campari spritz and 4 sandwiches for 8.60 euro and 2 double red wines and a simple snack tray (salami, cheese, twisty crackers) before dinner was 5.80 euro. To consider: it's a grab 'n stand corner bar - there are no tables and no facilities (toilets), but you don't want to waste valuable sightseeing time in Venice by sitting and slowing down (anyway, we don't...so it's perfect for us).

An essential stop for Bacari lovers. Small place with extremely kind staff, near Piazzale Roma, therefore in a strategic place near the train station or silos for cars. Ombra de vin to accompany the legendary sandwiches filled with all sorts of goodies, at a price of €1.20 at the time of writing. Spatial quality of the ingredients and the bread itself. You can ask for more in Venice. 5 stars

Purchased deny supply of sandwiches for my retirement party. Everyone immediately recognized the unattainable standard of the sandwiches made by Fabio&co. Their kindness and friendliness were missing like the spritzes and “ombres” but they were devoured anyway. Thanks fioi… keep it up, you are my fixed point for excursions in Venice.

very small bacareto but with the style of take, drink, eat and go!!!! glasses of wine for 1 euro... sandwiches for 1.2 euros.... with 10 euros you can have a nice aperitif.... and not only if you want to have fun and exaggerate. The porchetta and mustard sandwich is excellent!

Saw this place from our hotel and it looked really busy so we decided to check it out. Glad we did! Delightful place with bites to eat and drink. Simple, small bites perfect for snack or light lunch, we had the salami and cheese sandwich for €1.20 each. Must try, especially on a sunny day with a aperol!

Bacaro located in the university area, in a very nice square and with a beautiful atmosphere. We bought a white wine and a spritz, paying 3.70 €, rock bottom prices. The only flaw is that they had run out of bread and consequently all the things to eat, except for a few saucers of salami breadsticks. Definitely recommended!

This tiny Bacareto in the Santa Croce district specializes in small panini's and glasses of local wine. It was quite an experience. Once you get through waiting in line, with locals and university students, you'll enter the the tiny space greeted by 3 friendly staff (2 serving you and one preparing the panini's). Unbelievable prices, panini's between Euro 1 to 1.20 and wine ranging from 0.80 to 1. Had 3 panini's and a glass of wine for less than Euro 5. You can eat outside either on the church stairs or next to the canal. Less than a 5 minute walk from train station. Enjoy.

This place is a must to visit! In an overpriced city this place is a respite from overcharging. The wine is 80 cents for a glass of red or white. Sweet or dry. You can get meat, cheese and crackers for €1.60. you can also get bread here but they had run out when we arrived. This place proves you don't need to rip people off and still serve delicious food and wine. Pay this place a visit!

Came across this typical "hole in the wall" bar or "bacaro" serving traditional venetian cichetti food (small plates or tapas). Food and wine was absolutely delicious and the prices ridiculously cheap. Very laid back and casual as you stand, eat, drink, mingle, chat and go. The service was quick even though there were quite a few people in the bacaro.

What can I say...UNIQUE is the right word. Tiny little place where the many varieties of sandwiches and the kindness and courtesy of those who serve you reign supreme. It's a must try place. It is affordable for all budgets. If you then add a "goto de vin" (glass of wine) to the sandwich you will be happy for the whole day. It is not the classic and stereotyped "Venetian bacaro" it is a place to taste good small but very tasty sandwiches with many fillings with a glass of wine. You absolutely must try it!!

A bacaro always with the queue outside and people eating on the foundations. They make cicchetti in the form of mini sandwiches filled in various and original ways. Very good. You can only eat standing up. Friendly and patient staff, despite the crowds.

Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
