After receiving a recommendation from my father and step-mum to eat here we were thrilled to find it was 5 mins from where our studio apartment was located. Therefore for ease we ate there our first night in the city and we were not disappointed. The pizza was divine and husband raved about the pasta he had. The house wine... More

Visited twice before and after Cruise. Food and service was excellent in this small family restaurant Very accommodating of our young niece and very reasonably priced for the location. Pizza's were good, Pasta was good and every dish we had was freshly prepared.

This restaurant was nearest our hotel near the bridge that leads to the railway station bank and, oddly, next to Burger King! Why would anyone want to go to Italy and eat Burger King? This is a traditional family restaurant specialising in pizza and pasta. After eating in an over priced restaurant on the water side on the first night,... More

Great place not far from our restaurant. My wife does not prefer seafood, and this had excellent options! I had spaghetti with crab, and it tasted great.

Went at 7pm and just got last 2 places. Seems popular with UK and US visitors as menu is straightforward, not overpriced and there are no hidden charges. The place was packed so there was a nice lively atmosphere. The two waitresses worked very hard and were helpful; food cooked in full view in kitchen at rear. Food good and... More

This restaurant had great old world atmosphere complete with waiters with vests and ties. The waiter was friendly and made very good dining suggestions. All five of us loved the food. The tiramisu was the biggest and best we had. Extensive wine selections. They gave us aperitifs of grappa on the way out. Loved it all!

We came here one night for dinner. The food was not too good, when my wife asked for chilli flakes they gave her a powder that made her pasta extremely spicy. When she asked them for water they took 10 minutes to get her a bottle of water and banged the bottle on the table. When my wife went to... More

Just across the Ponte Scalzi from the Stazione this small restaurant is a little gem. It wasn't full so we were seated right away. You could see them cooking your food fresh in the back. My husband and son both had a pasta/seafood dish that was excellent. I had a small small that was very fresh. The house red wine... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
