We stayed close to this restaurant and really wanted to try it, but the first few nights it had a 'fully reserved' sign on the door. So on our last day I went to the restaurant and the friendly staff were happy to take a reservation for that evening...and lucky I did as it was their last table. The menu... More

Lots of locals. Fills up quickly after 9:00 p.m. Excellent value and great service. Squid ink pasta had that wonderful fresh taste of the sea. The spaghetti with mussels was excellent. A one liter carafe of good wine was only 9 euro. Huge salads for 3 euro. We will be back later this week. Do not confuse with Trattoria Ai... More

This restaurant was literally across the street from our hotel, and we were not disappointed! First of all the waitress was very welcoming and quick to explain the menu to us and made excellent recommendations. We had the antipasto platter which had four different Venetian appetizers - pickled sardine with onions, shrimp polenta, octopus salad, and baked scallop. All were... More

Cozy restaurant run very efficiently by a friendly staff. Food is served in generous portions, well presented and made of good ingredients. The sarde in saor are definitively unforgettable. Would highly recommend the place!

Popped in off street as hoc no idea if was good or not but compared to others in street these were only ones not trying to lure you in usually good sign. This was reinforced when realised most of restaurant was full of locals. Decided to go for it with one of their tasting menu, wow a treat indeed ,... More

We were made very welcome and received excellent service throughout the evening. The menu was extensive and detailed and the food exactly as described - very tasty, interesting and typical of the region. We were able to enjoy a leisurely meal at a very reasonable price. Although on the busy main street it was certainly not a 'tourist trap' like... More

the portions are large so don't over order. The mushroom and scallop spaghetti I had for first course was a lovely delicate mix. We had the mixed grilled fish for our main course. The waitress brought it to our table and then filleted and divided it out for us. It was excellent. The house wine was very cheap and as... More

To my judgement one of the best fish restaurants in Venice, family run, friendly and excellent value for money.

We have been to this cosy restaurant for dinner. I had fettucine with lobster and my mum had beef with grilled vegetables. We both were happy with our meals. They serve a good prosecco. The only downside is, the number of their outside table is very limited. We would prefer to have a table outside, as it was a hot... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
