We landed in this eatery on a cold day. Food was average and so was the service. The wine was good though and the prices of food were affordable. It was a short walk from Saint Mark's Square so it was a pretty convenient place to grab lunch. Hopefully, they can improve on both the quality of food and service.

Found this restaurant from The Telegraph website. After a long morning visiting The Doge Palace, we walked a few streets over and found this little gem. It only serves lunches unless you are booking a group for the evening. We tried the set menu, only 16€ per person. Spaghetti with bacon and lasagne for first course. It was delicious and... More

My girlfriend and I had some decent meals in Venice, but this certainly wasn't one... We arrived in a rather uncosy restaurant, but had rather 'high' expectations of the food as the waitress served us quickly. The restaurant being listed in a 'top ten budget restaurantsnof Venice' added up to these expectations, but that is before this foodnightmare began. First... More

I've never felt the need to write a bad review of a restaurant. And being English, I've never complained in a restaurant (until now). My partners lasagne first course was the worst lasagne I've tasted, worse than UK school dinners by a very long way, it was dense like a cake. My risssotto starter was edible but still bad. For... We found our way to this restaurant from the train station. It is quite a bit of walking distance though. Generally, the food are delicious and reasonably priced. My husband and I went during lunch and there was a large group who came in before us, therefore, the service was a little slow. One or two waitresses were not well-versed... More

This is a hidden gem, a stones throw from St Mark's Square. Run by the Diocese of Venice, it is 14 Euros for a two course meal. The meal itself is very filling with thew first course something like gnocchi or carbonara and the second course like scaloppini or pork.

We stopped by here for lunch after touring the Doge's Palace and in desperate need of some food. It was a bit off the main tourist roads but only a few minutes from the Piazza S. Marco. The fixed price menu was EUR 16 and 1/2 carafe of house wine was EUR 5 so in total for two we paid... More

We enjoyed a family meal for eleven here. Great location. Large portions. Watch out for for cheese starter, it's enormous.

Had two lunches here. It is hard to get reasonable priced meal in Venice. Here the prices are good , set lunch menu with limited choices. Fresh hot food . Locals and workers eating here, which is an indication that is good and value Was eating early 12:00 and not so crowded .

We have eaten here on a number of occasions (we visit Venice about four times a year) and this was our worst meal at the restaurant. We nearly always have the menu del gionno but this time it was a bad choice. The food was not anywhere near the normal standard, our veg side dish was the same as the... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
