Wandering the back streets we found this little place and got a table right by the edge of the canal so we decided to go for it. Service charge not included but it was clearly stated on the menu so we didn't get a nasty surprise. Lovely service. I asked advice on a vegetarian pasta dish and I was very... More

This is situated on the side of the Fondamente San Lonzenzo so it starts ahead for me, sitting outside in lovely Venice. It was just around the corner from where we were staying so we chose it as soon as we arrived. We both shared a seafood risotto and the house red and enjoyed everything. €65 for two.

Looks the part but food average, the evening before we had far better food for 1/4 the price at Ai Tre Leoni so know where we are off to tonight! Wine prices excessive also £25 for house wine plus taxes and service charges, don't get ripped off, stay clear of this place.

We stumbled on this little canal side restaurant and spent a few hours with great food, ice cold prosecco and friendly service. we were even treated to a fishing display by a little white heron across the canal. it was everything we expected from Venice

Absolutely perfect. Only 17 euros for the set menu and the portions were very generous. Or if you'd prefer you can chose any of the dishes on the menu instead. Service is efficient and polite and no rushing whatsoever. The food is simple and delicious! We've eaten here twice and wish we hadn't spent ages traipsing around looking for something... More

Only had tourist menu. Basic food but turned out to be one of our best value meals. Good service and lovely setting next to the canal.

We found this place by chance and decided to try it. We got a table right on the water's edge and Mirco our waiter took care of us. I odered a pasta with craw fish and it was amazing. Can't remember the name but it was really really good. Also ordered a pizza with mushrooms and another two pastas, we... More

We found this little restaunrant by chance. It is situated on a little canal not far from the touristic hot spots with the heavily overpriced restaurants ( 11.- Euro for a Espresso on St. Marks square ). This is one of the few spots where you not pressurized by agressive street vendors to enter the restaurant. Service is courteous and... More

We were warned ahead of time that any restaurant that shows their menu in more than 2 languages is best to be avoided. We were also warned that this place is a tourist trap, and that you get what you pay for. We proceeded anyway, so its really our own fault, and why I chose "average" rating instead of "poor"... 5 years ago my husband and I ran across Alla Conchiglia by accident while wondering around Venice. It was lunch time and there was a good crowd, people seemed to be really enjoying, the setting on the small canal was charming and the menu looked great. Turned out to be one of our favorite meals in Venice. We were just... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
