Had a great lunch today at Ostaria Rioba with friends and chileewn. We ordered the octopus started (v/good), 4 sea food degustation (excellent), scallops with bacon (excellent)... Kids ordered off menu pasta and fish (all v/good)... We were in a rush to catch a plane but my bday single dessert was a tiramisu with zabaglione cream that was to die... More

We spend a nice eve in he Ostaria da Rioba with friends. Memorable were the tasty steak, the tagliatelle and last but not least a Grappa die Amazone which was outstanding. Prices are a slightly higher than average but it's worth it!

Ostaria da Rioba is an unpretentious neighbourhood restaurant set on a corner on Fondamenta della Misericordia, so a little bit of a trek from the city centre. Behind the unassuming facade is a menu of Venetian classics mixed with some truly imaginative cooking. My starter, seafood cooked four ways, was a good case in point. Octopus with a curry sauce,... We had dinner here after the opening of the carnival and were truly stunned about the excellent hospitality, the skills of the service and - most importantly - the food. It is seldom that - despite the fact that every table was taken the staff took the time to explain the dishes in various languages and the background and origin... More

This restaurant is amazing and not to be missed! It is small and offers two sittings for dinner, around 7 pm and 9 pm of about 35 people each time. It is difficult to get reservations, and the best way is just to show up when someone is there and hope that they take pity on you and are able... More

Osteria da Rioba is one of the best places to eat in Cannaregio. It is filled with locals as well as tourists- always a good sign in a city where tourism is so predominant. The insalata di piovra (octopus salad) was delicious as was a creamy sformatino of artichokes. The rombo alla griglia was a bit disappointing being too thin... More

Surely, the food here is nice i had a great meal. However the service is formal and can therefore come off as cold. I didn't feel welcomed in the restaurant. No sooner had we sat down with menus we were bugged by a different waiter for our orders. Everything was very quick and this had the effect of making us... More

The meal was excellent beautifully flavoured and although portions not huge we were very well satisfied. It was a little overpriced for the food we had but don't let that distract you from trying this place as it was very good. Overall we have found most places to be more expensive this time but that is the fault of the... More

I would not recommend this restaurant as it is very expensive for very average food. Female staff member very friendly and helpful. Male aloof and unhelpful.

Really shocked at the treatment from staff after spending €600 in this restaurant. A query of a small overcharge resulted in verbal abuse from the staff. Won't be back 😠

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
