We stumbled upon this little Osteria after crossing the Rialto Bridge and escaping the tourist traps on the waters edge. It has only 10 tables and small menu but the food is ridiculous! This was by far the best seafood risotto I've ever had. Perfectly al dente rice, amazing buttery deliciousness and fresh seafood flavours. Do not miss this little... More

One of the things we really wanted to do in Venice was have a sampler cicchetti and an Ombra (shade) of wine. This place fit the bill! It was amazing. Good service and a very interesting plate was provide. It was mainly seafood, which was a bonus. Small and not touristy; we really liked it!

I never thought I would use the word 'quaint' for anything near the Rialto Bridge but this was an oasis among the bustle of the rude tourists outside. It was quiet, interesting, lovely staff and great food. I loved my fresh grilled squid and vegetables although I found the polenta very bland but then again I am not a polenta... More

This was the very first restaurant I visited in Venice. Had been walking around, getting lots in the alleys and streets of Venice, then found this for dinner at around 8ish pm. A small place and not very touristy. Ordered the Chef's special - fish soup. It was beautiful. And I thought the service was quite friendly as well.

I come here everytime I am in Venice. It is a small place so I always make a reservation. The easiest way to describe the menu: No Pizza, No Carne (meat), No Tourist Menu. The Bruschetta mix was very good and shared. We each ordered the ink fish risotto (risotto nero sepia) is a favorite. It is perfectly prepared and... More

The concierge at the Hotel Al Ponte Antico (another fabulous place) recommended this quaint restaurant to us. He called ahead to see if they had tables available, which thankfully, they did. Though we struggled to find it at night--it in fact was not far at all--we just got turned around--which of course just added to the fun--it was the perfect... More

At this point we've been in Italy 10 days, and the gluten free linguini with swordfish, tomatoes and kalamata olives was the best meal we have had, including Rome and Florence. The balance of flavors was gourmet. They made the dish without garlic and onion (my wife has an allergy), and it was fresh and amazing. I've loved olives forever,... More

The Ostaria is small and very welcoming and busy! We luckily managed to find a corner table where we settled in for the evening. They advertise as gluten friendly, and they really are, a separate apertising menu was presented to my husband, who happily picked his options. Tasty and authentic cuisine, what more can you ask for.

We booked for our Christmas evening meal at the restaurant and were met with a lovely intimate dining experience. The menu was a little limited but it did offer local dishes that were very tasty. Service was warm and welcoming - a really special ending to a very special day.

We only found this place coincidentally - just saw a small sign saying they have glutenfree desserts inside. A thing i can´t resist. I´m happy I didn t cause his little cute place is just awesome. Yes, it´s a bit more expensive but definitely worth it. The atmosphere is just fabulous. I really want to go back just to try... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
