How many times can I review this place?? As many as it may take to get the point across that this is one fantastic place to eat in Venice!! Yes, we did the customary "we love everything fried" at Gislon and indulged in fried meatballs, baccala, and mozzarella sandwiches. But, in consideration of our aging arteries, we also partook in... This place is unique - a real, genuine bustling takeaway and/or sitdown Venetian eating experience within spitting distance of the Rialto Bridge. Get there early enough and you may be lucky enough to find a place to sit at the food counter. Otherwise there's seating upstairs (but it's slightly more expensive) or takeaway. Venetian locals flock to this establishment for... More

We were introduced to this place many yrs ago on our visit to Italy. Every visit to Italy is a visit to Venice and always includes this place. Always. Yes, there's always a crowd at lunchtime, but it means the food is worthy of waiting. Good honest food, not pricey and the quality is consistently good. I've been eating melanzane... More

Yummy food both savory and sweet. Easy to get to watering hole of many, this place was such a fun spot for our group on our first night in Venice. And it was just as fun the second time around towards the end of our stay. Quick bites (check out the pics; everyone has posted the most popular items for... More

Just wanting a quick bite to eat, we stopped in for some of their sandwiches which were quite fresh and delicious. It was very busy during lunchtime. Would definitely go back! It was nice to find an affordable place to eat in a city of very expensive dining options.

Drama-free, historical, authentic Venetian rotisserie, extremely popular among local residents for its "mozzarella in carrozza" (best in the world!) and "baccala mantecato", but in general highly respected for its unique and extensive selection of mouth-watering traditional recipes (mainly fish oriented) It is located a stone's throw from the Rialto bridge, and during my stay in Venice I had lunch, dinner... A great, authentic place to buy a quick and affordable lunch. It has some vegetarian options, although the arrancini contain meat.

A fantastic place for a full meal or a few mouthfuls of cichetti and an ombra of vino. The crema fritta (battered and deep fried custard) is an absolute must.

I went here twice in two days for a snack and toilet break. Very friendly place. Cheap and fresh snack food and nice, clean toilets. Much better place for a break then the public toilets in Venice. Amazing gelato place next door (Suso)

I planned to visit this restaurant in Venice , and i was the right decision! Simple but delicious food, fresh fish and famous fried sandwich with mozarella and ham (2 eur) We took grill fish mix, fried seafood mix , one wine, one beer, salad and famous sandwich - about 40 eur. Good price for a nice meal! Will come... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
