Chose this partially because of reviews and also, when walking past at lunchtime there was a good vibe and a friendly welcome. Returning that evening there was a long que (glad we had booked a table), and a very noisy atmosphere. This is a 'local bar' and having had great reviews have now squeezed as many tables in together so... More

During our 4 night stay in Venice last week, we visited this restaurant twice! The food is freshly cooked, and soooo tasty. We booked on both nights, as each time we walked back to our hotel, from a day walking around Venice, there were huge queues. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is amazing. Five stars from us!

Reasonable price. We had one of the best Italian meals here. The owner and people who work here are very friendly. Food quality is exceptional. We ate here 3 times while we were in Venice. We will definitely go back if we visit Venice again. Balsamic reduction steak was fantastic, tasty seafood pasta and ravioli and delicious tiramisu. We had... More

I had missed out on the chance to eat here nearly 3 years ago, so was determined to make a go of it this time. We tried to reserve which was not possible (it was Carnival!), so eventually we just went along and queued up with other people. We were 5 and were eventually told that we could not be... More

We tried this place last night and weren't disappointed. As others have said the seafood pasta is fantastic. There were continuously 6-8 people queuing to get in while we are - testament to the quality. I had the tagliatelle with clams, my wife had cuttlefish in ink - both really good.

This is a surprise in Venice. We went thanks to tripadvisor reviews but we didn't expect it to be so good. As a starter we split a main course - parmesiana. It was delicious. The ingredients were fresh and it was a hefty portion. Then the lasagna came. Wow. Creamy, cheesy, beefy. But not nauseating. It blends all flavors perfectly.... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
