We visited after recommendation from our hotel. The service was efficient. The set menu at 48 euros was superb and far greater than our appetites could cope with. The waiter suggested wines by the glass to accompany each course and the pairing was excellent. We would definitely return in the future if we have the opportunity. I think the price... More

Excellent and rather unusual food here, beautifully prepared. We had roasted pork bellies with black cabbage and kumquat sauce. My husband had two beers and I had one glass of wine. I had the plumcake with ice cream and warm apple water for dessert and my husband had a cappuccino. Everything was beautifully presented but the atmosphere was a little... More

The fish dish I chose sounded amazing but it turned out to be a few big prawns with a bit of salad. Two glasses of the local white for €14 - really? total €74 for one starter and one dish of big prawns, the bread was good but we came away feeling we'd been had.... shame because we'd heard good... The food here was the best we had Venice. The staff were really attentive and professional. We wanted to try some seafood and theirs was amazing. It was freshly caught and recommended by the waitress. We had the best Tiramisu in Venice here (we sampled a lot!) and the fish was outstanding, in fact all of it was gourmet and... More

It was our last night in Venice, we decided to try this restaurant. We had just eaten something else, so we ordered some water and wine and waited a little before ordering some food. One of the the waitresses treated us well, but another waiter, thin, short bearded, with glasses showed up, and asked if we were ready to order,... More

Dear Sir, i'm pleased to respond you personally, considering the effort you put on describing me. You came in our restaurant, ordered wine and water, and after 35 minutes i came at your table. 35 minutes, not twenty as you mention, while we are not even considering the time you spent to order wine and water. You do say that... More

As other reviewers already wrote, you will find in Vecio Fritolin a mix of traditional venetian cuisine but reinterpreted in a innovative way. Everything we tried was delightful. And the waiting personal is friendly and courteous. we had a wonderful dinner!

The only dot we found is that the menu in the window does not say that fixed-price menu must be for the whole table. Disturbing to find when you seat. Other than that, a very good dinner (reserve in advance), with great fried fish and excellent pasta. Traditional dishes are re-interpreted, so you do not have to worry about repetitive... More

Dear Sir, We are delighted to hear that you enjoy our food and the re-interpretation provided by our resident Chef, Pierluigi Lovisa. Regarding our prefixed menu, the specification "for the whole table" where already available into the menu that we have outside for the public while it's also listed inside the menu that we provide on the tables. It may... More

Vecio Fritolin from Venice is a loved, characterful little restaurant near the Rialto Bridge in Santa Croce where people have been eating traditional Venetian food for over a century. It's one of the cities where you still can find "fritolini", precursors of today's fast food eateries, popular in the 1800s with both the rich and less well off. The scrumptious historic finger food is still served, alongside masterpiece variations on other local Venetian and Italian dishes. The seafood and vegetables come daily from the nearby Rialto Market, and are on the constantly-changing menu within hours. Whether they stumble or deliberately step onto Vecio Fritolin's pink terrazzo floor, everyone's invariably glad they did.

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
