Loved this Osteria. It's a true Italian place. Great food at a great price full of local people. Definitely one of the best options of Venice if you wanna try true local places. Loved it!

So many locals can't be wrong. This little bar is a hidden treasure full of locals and a few tourists. The tapas is fresh and tasty, the apperol spritz's are delicious and the wines are just as good from all regions of Italy. The service is good too.

Had read about this in a book written by a London restaurateur and so decided to search it out and was glad that I did. This is a great local experience to be had and somewhere that is clearly still used by locals as well as visitors. Staff were excellent, as was the food that they served, all washed down... More

This is a very buzzy, rustic, great place for a lunch, hanging precariously off the corner of one of the canal bridges. I think they were playing good waiter/bad waiter when we visited with one being amazing and the other being terrible. We got the terrible one. It's not a problem trying to upsell, but at least take a hint... More

This is a small wine bar on the bridge leading to the Basilica di San Giovanni e Paolo. The also serve wonderful cicchetti which are small snacks or side dishes, typically served in traditional "bàcari" ( cicchetti bars or osterie) in Venice, Italy. A fantastic choice of wines are available along with either platters of cicchetti or just point to... More

Been there already 3 times this week I can only recommend this small gem for it's honest approach / good quality ingredients and some wonderfull local wines. This little cantina is a welcome alternative towards 3-course restaurants when u want to eat small plates of e.g. local cheese and cut meat. They have lovely small portions of local dishes as... Very small place with only two tables and a couple of perches. This bar/snack bar/restaurant can be best described as a Venetian tapas bar having a huge selection of delectable mini bites to pick and choose from. Atmosphere is friendly and dominated by locals which is a good sign. Dont expect pizza or generic Italian pasta dishes.

Ignore any reports telling you this place is closed it's very much alive! They serve wine and traditional cicchetti at a reasonable price. Top tip: ask for the house wine, cheap as chips and really good, highly recommended.

Very small and cute place with lots of charms, fantastic Aperol Sprizz (2.50 Euro), super friendly staff, lots of Italian authenticity. Go have your drink outside on the steps with a view! Unique experience. (They also have tapas and an amazing cheese selection.) Unfortunately, I can't upload the photo I took - so you will have to take a look... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
