Beautiful old school Venice taverna. We had veal which was perfect. All around great experience. Wine was great (no surprise). They has strikingly beautiful server who looked like a professional model. Quick and professional service. Would definitely go back (maybe tomorrow!!)

The first night of our visit to Venice we strolled around Piazza San Marco and the many alleys in the neighbourhood. The receptionist at our hotel had given us some recommendations for dinner, and so we ended up at Taverna La Fenice, located in a small square behind the famous opera house. The restaurant has a nice outdoor terrace, but... More

We ate here on our last night in Venice. Everything from the bread, mustard olive oil, salads, pasta, and steak were terrific. We all shared their vegetable risotto which was exceptionally good. Even our picky ten year old ate it. It was a little pricey but worth it for a high quality, more formal meal.

We were on our way to see the opera and needed to find somewhere quick and easy for a light meal. This restaurant is perfectly positioned just around the corner and although it is close by there are not massive amounts of people passing the front of this restaurant. I think therefore it is a little bit of a hidden... More

We were getting a little tired of cichetti bars and wanted a good sit down meal. We happened upon this as we were walking back to our Air BnB. Although it took a good half hour before anyone paid attention to us , we were pleased with the crudité starter they brought to the table along with bread and an... More

I had the artichoke starter, baby pork with black truffle main and cheeses with delightful relishes to finish. Food delicious and service good all round. Ricardo stood out in particular.

If you go and eat in a restaurant like this, you know it will be expensive. But two beef filets, two glasses of wine and a bottle of water should not add up to more than € 110 Euro. That is simply too much for what is being offered. The beef (€ 35) was excellent, the porcini tasted a tiny... More

In Venice with my girlfriend, first night in the city, wanted to treat her. Ambling around the city at 8 o'clock at night in January we chanced on this place. A very pleasant sound of a jazz trio was coming from inside, the menu looked ok, so in we went. Greeted by friendly staff, who took our coats, seated us,... More

Its the best restaurant in Venice! The food is incredible tasty ( all what we tasted was perfect) but its not the only one good things there. Also the management and waitress are really quality and the atmosphere is so special that you want to stay more and more in Taverna la Fenice. We celebrated our wedding there and it... More

Slow impersonal service, we were charged for items that were ordered and never brought to our table. Our server was impersonal, and put up a fight over a bottle of water that she insisted that she brought to our table, but absolutely did not bring (priced at 6 euros...) My spaghetti and meatballs tasted like fish, which sort of disgusted... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
