Overall experience at Ca d'Oro alla Vedova was very good. We especially liked the polpette and the sarde in saor, super tasty and very typical. Personnel was kind, the place very nice and the location absolutely great!

Having done our research, boyfriend and I enjoyed cicchetti in other bacaros around Venice with great experiences -- delicious food and friendly service. However, coming to Ca D'oro alla Vedova we were rudely served (if you can even call it that) by an elderly gentleman at the bar. Since he indicated he didn't speak much English upon asking -- despite... More

The taste was good, however they were extremely small portions. We had to get food again after. Atmosphere is nice. We had to ask for the house wine as it is not on the menu. Would not go again.

On our first evening in Venice we were delighted to discover this place, which was close to our Hotel. We hadn't booked a table but an extremely helpful barman said that a table would be free in about 30 minutes. He suggested we go for a walk but we stayed and had a polpette (meatball) & small glass of wine... More

Although we did not have very much wine or food here, I felt the need to review it. I had wanted to find somewhere that was typical and local and this certainly fitted the bill. It was a little confusing having never been in a Bacaro before. We had heard that it was well known for its hot Polpette which... More

We were recommended to try this place by our Venetian host and was not disappointed. It takes a bit of finding if you're not familiar with Cannaregio, but is worth the effort. It's also open on a Monday which is a bonus. Booking is recommended, but we arrived very early doors on our first night, famished after an early start... More

The waiters were rude and had a dirty look. I know many people look that way nowadays but in a restaurant... The meatballs were a ball of salt. And how is it possible to end a meal without a coffee?

Charming place, nice decoration, cosy atmosphere, beautiful waiters BUT very disappointing menu: Mainly fish - but not really the Venitian musts (no cod fish for example) - and only 3 desserts. Very small portions. Good point: the meatballs as appetiser. All in all I wouldn't recommend it.

What an oasis in the turmoil of Venice! A small menu, but all expertly prepared. They don't cater for large parties like hen nights, so it's quiet, and the decor is as it was in the 1930's. There is a McDonalds next door that looks awful in comparison. The house speciality is Polpette - a delicious meatball in breadcrumbs -... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
