Clearly popular with the locals, the place was rammed, and with a great atmosphere. The Chiccetti was excellent with a good choice and a good selection of wine was available. One to put on your list when visiting Venice.

Small, cozy, delicious - I can only recommend this little restaurant. Off the main streets of Venice, the prizes are cheaper and the service better. The food was quick, fresh and devine. Can be quite full so a reservation might be necessary.

Again another tip off from a Venetian friend - stumbled in here at 10pm after a Vivaldi concert and were told the kitchen had closed. Not wanting to leave due to the delightful atmosphere we decided to tuck into their cicchetti - small Venetian tapas consisting of meatballs, octopus, squid, prawns, stuffed olives, sardines...the list goes on - every mouthful... We had 1 more day in Venice and it turned out to be a rainy day so we just did a little more sightseeing and ate our way through the day. We ended at Cantina do Spade for dinner...no reservation. We ate early so they had room for a table of 2. The food was delicious and we had a... More

We went here since somebody recommended it. To get there wasn't easy even though it's very close to Rialto bridge, actually all Venice it's abit complicated until you get used to it. Food was really good, we ordered meatballs with white polenta, porcini and ricotta ravioli and some other dishes. All of them were delicious. Prices are very reasonable, not... More

Welcoming, friendly atmosphere, but not in your face all the time. Mussels in tomatoes sauce were delicious, as was the ravioli with mushrooms. In fact I had food envy for all the dishes coming out to other tables too. Fantastic price, really worth going to the trouble of "stumbling" into.

This place is down a small alley in the Rialto area, not easy to find but worth seeking out. It looks like a tiny ciccheti bar from the front but they have more seating out the back. It was crowded with locals every time we walked past but the staff were welcoming and quickly found us a table. The menu... More

We visited this bar as part of a foodies tour, and it is exceptional. The choice of food is great, and the wines are well matched. We have taken their card so we can return!!

Description
One of the most ancient Venetian osterie, the Cantina Do Spade is only a few steps away from the Rialto Bridge. This bacaro offers a variety of cicheti: small typically Venetian snacks like fried squid rings, meatballs, mozzarelle in carrozza, baccala mantecato etc. Here our friendly staff and atmosphere will make you feel at home, but with the opportunity to taste fine and fresh food.

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
