On a business trip, one of my vendors took me for a tour of the city at night. After spending about an hour just walking along the cobblestone side streets, we ended up at Ristorante La vecchia Carrozza. Only one other couple dining and very quiet but the weather was cold and rainy. The owner started us with an appetizer... More

Recommended by the owner of our Agriturismo in Canelli, this gem of an eatery was perfect for a good warming lunch. Hidden well off the main shopping streets of Asti, you enter a quaint vaulted dining room with about 12 tables and are greeted by the ageing owner, who then proceeds to put on a bit of a performance. A... More

Just in time for the fresh fungi porcini. This is one of those rare places where they proudly show you a tray full of this great mushroom, before making it into something wonderful! Lovely service too, good choice of local wines, and not expensive at all.

We ate here by recommendation from another restaurant. The older husband and wife team with staff offer impeccable service and food. It is in more of a residential area off the main center of Asti- easily walkable. They offer fresh buffet options along with a standard menu. The rabbit braised in Arneis wine was outstanding. The mixed meat ravioli the... More

What lovely food and service. Offered an assortment of appetizers, followed by a main course and a selection of desserts -- I couldn't have been happier. The service was impeccable and the location lovely.

At the recommendation of our hotel, we tried this superb little restaurant that is hidden away on a residential street and run by an amazing ederly couple. The husband does most of the interfacing with guests in the dining room, and no one seems to speak any English, but that was not a problem. We still had a wonderful meal,... More

What a find, local food and wines in a lovely simple setting under brick arched ceilings. The Grandpa and his wife serving were absolutely charming and funny too although we have no Italian to speak of. 3 courses and a bottle of wine for 2 were €90. Delicious. local curio Parma ham and melon for me and this tagliatelle with... More

Saw a rave review on trip advisor and we were not disappointed. We had a lettuce and tomato (not on the menu) that was fresh and tasty (unlike in the US). Ordered the pepper antipasto. Peppers were sautéed in olive oil and topped with anchovy, or tomato sauce, and cheese. Each taste was exquisite. Homemade pasta with Tartuffo was next.... More

We happened upon La Vecchia Carrozza by chance on an August bank-holiday (so most 'touristy' places were closed.) It was full of locals, who obviously know a good deal when they eat one! The food is all home made, from the trolley of varied, interesting, local entrees to the superb array of at least twelve (seriously!) desserts. We were able... More

Visited for a light lunch. Not the easiest place to find but worth the trouble. Lovely vaulted cool room with fresh mushrooms and antipasti on display. Friendly service. Pasta with truffle sauce was excellent. Would certainly try for dinner if in Asti again.
