Before our trip I had a hard time selecting what restaurants we would visit when in Vernazza because the reviews are all over the place. That decision was made much easier since when we visited there was a storm that shut most of the town down. This was one of the few restaurants open. And they were packed. So it... More

Ordered the fried seafood and penne con scampi but the shrimp with not that fresh and the fried seafood was bland. Charged EUR56 for water and 3 plates. None of the dishes can be modified e.g. add shrimp.

Very disappointing meal. In a fishing village the least you would expect is half decent seafood but this place was lousy. "Seafood" spaghetti was just spaghetti plus mostly empty clam and mussel shells. Dish contained maybe 10 clam shells of which only 3 had any contents. Same for the mussels. The few mussels that I could find were minute. Definitely... More

We were on a tour with our cruise ship tour group and had free time in Vernazza when it started to rain. We had been there once before so after a quick walk about we decided to duck under and umbrella and have a quick bite to eat and glass of wine and rest our feet before continuing on the... More

Eight of us from my group had lunch in this quaint wonderful restaurant! The staff was excellent! Everyone enjoyed their meal! Beautiful surroundings inside and out! I had the linguini with clams .... it was delicious! The restaurants around this one were not eager to make room for our group - but the staff at Gianni Franzi were welcoming!

We loved this local spot which was recommended by our Airbnb host, born and raised in Vernazza. Try the pesto - it's a staple of the area and Gianni's was some of the best we tasted! You'll love having dinner outside under the umbrellas overlooking the sea!

We went for a late lunch (after hiking) as most restaurants in Vernazza are closed between 3-7pm and this was a rare one that remained open. Unfortunately, the food was nearly inedible. My seafood salad was rubbery, the shrimp pasta my husband ordered had one shrimp, and the octopus I ordered wasn't fresh and smelled very fishy. None of the... More

The food as described on a menu should be as accurate to what you are receiving. Spaghetti with seafood should have just that - expecially as we are 20 meters from the ocean and fishing boats daily bring in their catch. 6 Muscles & 6 pippies do NOT make or what I would call a spaghetti ai frutti di mare.... We just ate at Gianni Franzi after a Rick Steve's good review. We ordered the octopus and the house white wine. The wine was boring and the octopus tasted canned and tasteless. We stopped there and left with a 32 euro bill and a bad taste in our mouth. What a disappointment. The pizzeria Baia Saracena down the street was... More
