Did not know about this place, or even been searching for something sweet - noticed it on my way to the parking at the Aquarium - thinking I might find a piece of a good fresh bread or similar. Immediatelly liked the place when entered - cute authentic place - like stepping 100+ years back :) very friendly service despite... More

They have wonderful pastries, specializing from Austrian/Hungarian and Italian specialties, great cakes and a great place to buy a present when you are invited as a guest! Included also liqueurs and aperitives

There is a newspaper article in this shop which claims that the cakes here are the best in Italy and they are certainly delicious. There is an amazing choice and the shop was directly opposite our hotel so it would have been rude not to. Don't miss the fantastic croissants crammed full of apricot jam.

I use to go to Pasticceria Penso about 35 years ago. Recently I went back to Trieste and found it again. It is still amazing! Just pastries. Not a full service restaurant.

Penso is a very modest-looking pasticceria in one little street in Trieste. However, it has become legendary due to its great selection of pastries. Trying to figure out what was all that buzz about, I tried the Sacher cake and I must say that it was one of the best I have ever had. The rum cake was spectacular and... More

After reading about this place I felt it was an absolutely must for someone with a sweet tooth as big as mine. On our first attempt this place was closed but on the second day we were more lucky. The place is small and heaven for someone who like pastries. I was a little bit disappointed that there were not... More

I always feel really welcome when visiting, my Italian isn't great but they always try and help me with my Italian or speak a little English. The nougat is to die for, and makes great presents for the office. They sell a lovely range of chocolates, cakes and desserts and are so helpful. On my last trip I bought a... More

I will be visiting Trieste in the summer and upon looking at this reviews of you hotels and restaurant, this PASTICCERIA PENSO hit my eye because I might be related to the owner. I live in NY and my mother last name was Penso and she had relatives there. So I will be visiting this place for the goodies and... More

We stopped Trieste for about two hours, while we're heading to Ljubljana. This place was in my check list, and we loved it. It's clean and prices are very reasonable.
