Located slightly outside the gate, this restaurant offers gigantic portions of freshly prepared pasta served in the cooking dish they were made in. The padrone who runs the restaurant is in full charge and lets you know what is on offer that day.

This feels like a traditional trattoria. Nothing flashy, just good food, good service and good prices (we had a shared starter plater, then roast chicken with roast vegetables and potatoes and a ravioli dish, plus two carafs of wine (two large glasses each) for €40, incl. bread and water). There's no menu, however, they tell you what there is.

My husband and I swung by here for dinner on a Saturday night a few weeks ago. The menu and prices seemed decent enough - and even an artichoke and pasta option for a veg like myself- so we gave it a shot. It was packed when we walked in, and at first we were told there would be a... More

Italy is a great tourist experience because food is one of the many wonderful and memorable attractions. I love to travel in Greece, for example, which has spectacular beauty. Yet as many times as I have been there, I can hardly remember a meal (a view and/or a sunset, yes, but a meal, rarely). Yet wherever you travel in Italy,... More

This good Italian ristorante will serve up some local food. While there is a menu on the front door the proprietor will tell you what is on the menu that night. This may be something to do with being there is winter. We had pasta with mushrooms. For main course we tried the lamb and osso bucco.

We were greeted by the owner who kept telling us in broken English that he’d order the foods that “Mama just make.” We had a huge Antipasto Rustichello: bruschetta, salad with shaved parmesan, cheese tarts, roasted peppers and tomatoes, and a bowl of rustic bread. We had the house red and a small carafe of white. Mama brought us three... More

Recommended by a local and filled with locals. Why? The pasta, of course. Fresh, amazing, and nowhere better. Claudia was an exceptionally pleasant advisor and server. Our only regret was we didn't have another night to return.

This is a rustic family owned place just outside city walls. We were only 2 Americans, and had the pleasure of enjoying the dog and 2 year old from the family who sat behind us. No menu ( menu posted outside if you want to check first) - very sociable owner tells you what he thinks you should eat. Pastas... More

Just outside the city gates, this trattoria is extremely popular with the locals. The staff guide you through the choices and are happy for you to share a primo. The house wine is very drinkable and the food at least as good as many more expensive restaurants.

Chaotic and noisy in a fun way, you should probably book in advance to be assured of a seat as it seems to be very popular with the locals. The food is simple but very tasty and the fresh pasta was good.
