Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

from start to finish this was a delicious dinner all the way around! We started off with the artichoke, and went on to have delicious pastas and an excellent dinner. The ambience is upscale and romantic! The host was so lovely. The entire experience was...wonderful! It’s a step above the trattorias and the food is just delicious. You cannot go wrong here at all. We loved our time at Piperno!More

I had a delightful dinner at Piperno on my last night in Rome. This is a well known restaurant in the Jewish quarter. They serve a variety of unique Roman Jewish dishes such as spaghetti unto e cacio and carciofi alla giudia. The service is...outstanding. And if you are dining solo like me, there is a wonderful variety of wines by the glass. Do not miss dessert! The torta di ricotta was outstanding.More

This is one of the oldest restaurants in the Jewish ghetto area -- in a quiet square away from the hustle of the main street. General vibe is friendly but formal, with waiters in full uniform. We came for the artichokes and they were fantastic...-- fried to a crisp (in the best ungreasy way). I also had artichokes with lamb sweetbreads, and my husband had the saltimbocca, with a very good bottle of white from Lazio. Desert was "grandpa's balls" (don't ask!). We liked it all and booked for a second night, asking to eat in the very festive main dining room, rather than one of the quieter side rooms. Everyone was super friendly ; our waiter from the first evening stopping by to say Hello the second night and the hostess greeted us like her long lost friends. We hope to be back soon!More

Every so often it is worth flying however far you must to enjoy Piperno’s fried Jerusalem artichokes. The rest of the food is good, the setting lovely, the staff welcoming. But it’s the artichokes. Omg. Just go and have them.

In all my years of dining both in NYC and abroad, I have never been treated so rudely by a hostess. We showed up and my reservation had been moved to the following day without notification. One month prior, I had asked if they had...availability the following day but never heard a response. The restaurant changed the date, and I didn’t know. The hostess came over repeatedly to prove her point instead of graciously acknowledging the mistake. It was highly unprofessional and rude. She simply did not care. On the other hand, the food was very good, wine excellent and wait staff pleasant. Setting was also very pretty on a summer eve.More

We should have taken the previous reviews on board sooner but by then we would have been charged 80 Euro for cancellations. So we had inedible burnt fried artichoke, baccala that was raw and cold inside, sweetbreads in a sloppy sauce and saltimbocca which also...swam in sauce. The roast potatoes were cold and raw, became just about edible when returned TWICE to the kitchen and the chicory which was also cold never reappeared when we requested it to be heated up. The service was brusque and the only really tasty part of the meal was the very nice bottle of Barbera Asti . I hate to diss a restaurant so brutally but it was ghastly and even smelt slightly musty so a birthday dinner was not the joyous occasion it should d have been,More

Huge disappointment : instead of being tender, i had to chew the meat in my dish for a long time before I could swallow it. It is the only restaurant in Rome where I felt pressured to order more and the interactions with the staff...where cold. Will not return.More

Unfortunately, Piperno is not a good classic anymore, and much less a good restaurant. Another tourist trap which is still alive thanks to its past reputation and tourists. Pasta and lamb chops were particularly bad. Very disappointing.

This restaurant is very close to the Hotel MOnte Cenci where we stayed over a long weekend. It has a grand and old feel in a good way. Service was attentive and the variety of food was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the carciofa alla giudia,...a local classic. A very good selection of wine and a memorable atmosphere. There were 6 of us and we left feeling that we had had a wonderful dining experience.More

The website lists a takeaway menu option (limited but possibly good). I have spent a lot of time mulling this over, choosing what to order and getting up the courage to speak in Italian to only be told that the restaurant doesn't do takeaway. A...wholly valid approach but would be good if the website was updated.More

Easy reservation online . Some people have to show their Green pass... friends of the house skip this and do not bother to wear a mask , this is not not professional . Waiters are old fashioned and a bit boring . We want to...taste their specialities , are open for suggestions and like food if well prepared . Specialities were a bit bland . We asked wines wines by the glass and got Barolo and Amarone that were not up to standard . Display of the food uninteresting . We have been before in this ghetto and ate better at other places . A pity .More

Rome restaurants usually close one day a week, and that day is at their discretion. Piperno is closed on Mondays.

Hi Barb S. As other Trip Advisors have suggested, its a fair distance/walk from St. Peters and i would personally take a taxi. Re the language...we had absolutely no trouble in conversing with our waiter.
