Very pleasant place, both inside and on the porch. Food is always excellent! This is a family business and more often than not it's Mamma in the kitchen.

We came across this restaurant when we first arrived at our accommodation in Trastevere - we were accosted by the owner with his Lonely Planet guide routine. He seemed really friendly so decided to return that evening for dinner. We weren't disappointed. As it was quite cool we sat in the back room with the huge paintings. We had bruschetta... More

Must be honest - we were actually on our way to Popi Popi next door based on a friends recommendation, but it was closed and we went in here. Following a brief interrogation by the owner as to why we had walked by to first go next door, we were eventually seated! A superb late lunch followed including Antipasto platter,... More

Cute and delicious restaurant! It's better to book a table to be sure you won't have to wait for a table. We had spaghetti vongolle and it was amazing. Very tasty and not fat or too heavy.

Small family business with very good Italian food. We have been there twice and tried some "Antipasti", Pizza and Pasta. Everything was perfect and the service was very good as well. It is totally worth the money and I can recommend it to anybody who loves Italian food.

Heard about the place from a friend, and decided to try. The food was very good, especially antipasti. We had bruschetta, mozzarella and tomatoes for starters along with focaccia bread. All of this was excellent, and the main course was good. The only negative thing would be the creepy bathroom downstairs and fairly apathetic or boring staff. However, for us... More

I've been coming to Alle Fratte since 1997. Its a family run restaurant so the atmosphere is homey and welcoming. I especially love the giant paintings of various areas around Rome. The cooks Antonio and Andrea are experts in preparing wonderful home cooked Italian food. You also have to have Silvana's homemade New York style bagels for Saturday and Sunday... More

This restaurant has become our place to eat in Rome. It's the best. You will find many locals eat there which is a good sign. The restaurant has a great selection of local cuisine and good prices. We were in Rome for a week and we went there 4 times. Every meal we had there was great. Alle Fratte definitely... More

The owner of the Restaurant was stood outside greeting the passing public, he explained that it was a family run restaurant and that his wife was the cook. We went in and took a seat outside under the covered seating outside. We ordered our food which was amazing and such good value for money, it's all homemade and mum had... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
