We really enjoyed the great food and service, but were put off by being given a hand written invoice amounting to more than we expected and no formal receipt. The restaurant needs to tidy up its handling of payments and receipts.

We are locals and regulars at Lo Sgobbone- knowing the family for years. Unfortunately, we won't be back. We were charged for 1/2 bottle of wine when we drank 1/3. We were charged for a dessert we didn't ask for- they just brought it as...an offering, but ended up charging us 6 euros. Also, 8 euros for 5 slices of bread?! We were treated like stupid tourists and cheated. The food is really good, but I can't risk being robbed again. Too bad...More
I go to Rome regularly and we know there are plenty of great places to eat... but this is so special in that it's an entirely run family restuarant (mum, dad, son and daughter) and it literally feels like you're going to someone's house to...eat - it's all home made, nothing pretentious about it, just genuinely traditonal home cooked Roman meals. It doesn't get better than this.More
Pippo is always great. Family run trattoria serving spectacular pastas (Excellent Carbonara, Cacio & Pepe, Gricia...) great lamb chops "scottadito" savoury cotoletta "primavera" (sort of light Weinersnitschel topped with fresh raw tomatos a rugola) nice veal, honest house wine and tasty deserts. Must make reservation...as place is small. Enjoy!More
We found it after an evening session of Tennis IBI tournament last year, we arrived very late and they served us with no problems. Top Class amatriciana, good "home" wine and rightly priced. We decided to return this year. We went twice and we tried...carbonara and cacio e pepe plus some other traditional delicious appetizers. Everything's perfect. Pippo it's a very funny guy, Giovanna (daughter) and the staff it's kind and osteria type, very warm, you'll feel home as well. Me and my friends booked already for next year tounament. Good job Pippo !More
If you are not looking for a stylish cool restaurant but for excellent food sourced by the reniewed Amatrice countryside and large portions, this is your perfect local trattoria. Best pasta recipes are Matriciana and Carbonara, followed by tasty beef or pork meet. If you...go at Porcini mushrooms season don't miss them. Cakes are also good and home made.More
Very good pasta dishes in an authentic setting- seemed very popular with locals Something may have got lost in translation as we ended up with 2 plates of very hard bread and 2 plates of olives we didn't really want that ended up costing a...bomb-so just watch out you only get what you want instead of a shock when the bill comes! probably an error on our part and we didn't complain as we had enjoyed our meals.More
We spent a really good time here with friends. Food is absolutely amazing and staff is really welcome. I suggest this place to all my Italian friends (I'm Italian as well).
Wonderful, understated, family run restaurant, North West corner of Rome, near Ponte Musica. Usual Roman specialties and lots of choice. Delightful ambience and very much a locals place with the odd foreigners like ourselves. We were made very welcome and a good exaple when a...little effort at Italian language goes a long way. Excellent antipasti and roast pork dish.More
This trattoria/osteria is around the corner from our apartment this year; so of course we had to try it. i was initially unwilling because of its look from the outside - the large awning is filthy... that aside, everything else is very good, and it's...very clean inside. classic italian dishes - we had an excellent spaghetti (billed as tagliolini but it was spaghetti) with fresh artichokes.. gotta keep eating them as long as they are in season, and a very good roast veal - large portions. i also ordered the fresh asparagus - "a piacere" (as I wished) with butter and parmesan... a big plateful. $10 and worth it. the house white is from Pitgliano in SE Tuscany - an area we love - and perfectly serviceable. You are given a 1 liter bottle and you pay for "a consumiano" - what you consume. we were too full to try the desserts, but they look terrific, and the Italians around us were not holding back. The service was less than ideal, because they had too many people for the 2 people serving as host/server/waiter, you name it. But one can tolerate that in Rome. The menu has English translations, but mainly to chuckle at - not that that's unusual in Rome ('dolce' which should be 'desserts', translated as 'sweeties'). The dishes 'al giorno' should be tried (e.g. our pasta with artichokes). If you are in the Ponte Milvio/Flaminio north/MAXXI area, this is a great pick (as we say in our family).More
We were on our way to the Modern MAXXI museum in the Flaminio quarter and we were hungry. This is a part of Rome that we are completely unfamiliar with and we weren't sure what to have for lunch. Passing by lo Sgobbone one would...not think there's anything special going on "in there." Oh my, upon entering it was clear that we had arrived at the right place. As our visit unfolded, we were treated to a warm welcome and excellent service and, let's just say that the food was outstanding! This place is everything a restaurant should be: warm, inviting, filled with locals and good food. There's nothing fancy or pretentious about lo Sgobonne, just go!More
Out of touristic circuits this small cosy trattoria has one of the best carbonara ever tried. Noisy, familiar neighborhood crowd. Ideal for a winter meal.
The owners of Pippo lo Sgobbone were absolutely fantastic! We arrived from Pordenone and Sgobbone's was recommended by the apartment owner. We were not disappointed! The food was plentiful, the staff was amazing and the quality was second to none! I recommend calling ahead or...going by the restaurant for reservations as this place fills up fast, but it is worth the wait if you plan to eat here and you will not be disappointed. We were in Rome for 4 days and ate at Sgobbone's 3 times! Their lunch/dinner menus are relatively the same but again, the food is fantastic!More
I'm torn between rating this small neighborhood restaurant among the best in Rome and giving away its secrets and having it flooded with tourists. My fear is that it will become "discovered" and change its methods and menu to cater to the masses. This out-of-the-way...restaurant is simple, authentic and a real treat! My pasta with a tomato fish sauce was lick-your-plate! Our dinner guests ordered the carbonara with pecorino! I almost traded dishes upon tasting his! My spouse and other guest ordered the Maltegliate with mushrooms, also very good! Polpette, meatballs, wonderful! Wine was a full 1 liter! First we've seen on this trip.More
We were staying nearby and were recommended this trattoria as a good place for an evening meal and it certainly was a very good meal. If you are wanting 5 star luxury it is probably not for you. The trattoria is in a non touristy...location away from the main sights but is an authentic neighbourhood trattoria and very good value. We opted for antipasti, which you can choose yourself, and pasta dishes all of which were very good. Efficient and friendly service. Good house white.More
