Found this location after a visit to the Vatican and decided to stop in for dinner. Pizza was the best we had and my spaghetti bolognese was delicious!

I had lunch on May 2nd 2017. Even though the restaurant was 95% empty service was extremly slow:it was clear that waiters pass work to one another so nothing was done. Both waiters went to the street several times to chat with friends.A lady and who seemed to be her daughter appeared to be the owners or at least the managers... Had Lunch at Venerina (Osteria) Al Mascherino near Vatican City. We had the special with Cannoli and spaghetti with peas in butter sauce. Good food, good service and friendly staff.

EXCELLENT!!! If your legs are tired after a 3 hr. tour of the Vatican, and you want a traditional Italian lunch with house wine, where all of the locals eat out, you MUST try this cozy "osteria"!!! The servers are humorous, courteous, and speak English. The background is filled with Italian chatter rather than sirens. The food is delicious for... More

We went to this place, as basically all the other restaurants that were reviewed with a high rating on Tripadvisor seemed to be closed on this evening (or shut down, Ristocchicco and Ristorante Borgo Antico). We did the light menu, which at €15 was good value for money. We got a bruschetta, a very basic salad with olives and basil... More

Went on the basis of a review. Food was average at best and the whole meal was vastly overpriced. Mysterious bill. Left feeling ripped off and dissatisfied.

We popped in here for a cup of tea and a coffee to warm up while we waited for our vatican museum tour. The service was slow and the place pretty quiet. We went up to pay as we could get nobodies attention and were shocked by an 11 euro bill, 6 euros of which were a 'service charge' of... More

Very good lunch close to the Vatican with typical Italian dishes and formidable staff. Worth a visit. Very varied menu that pleases all the palate

We are no strangers to Italy, nor to the area around the Vatican. It's difficult to find a place with good food, good service, and reasonable prices. When looking for a place to have lunch, this restaurant caught our eye, despite the absence of other diners. Enjoyed a peaceful, quiet lunch. Prices very much in line with other establishments of... 4 people ate here, seemed popular with the locals (even cops taking away pizzas). Service professional and friendly and all food great. I had a pizza, wife beef, and then guests took a salad and pork chops and no complaints. House wine reasonably priced and good quality. Recommended.

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighbourhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighbourhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighbourhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
