This restaurant had been recommended to us by the concierge at our hotel. He had suggested a place to us the previous night which did good food with good portion sizes for an average price. We were very pleased with it, so we decided to try this restaurant out as it was more up market than the previous restaurant. It... More

Had a perfectly decent evening meal in here and I have no complaints, though I am not convinced it was great value for money. But certainly no bad experience and the staff were pleasant and welcoming.

We have just arrived in Rome. Wow! Off to a great start!!! The dinner was excellent! Prosciutto with melon and pasta. Fillipo is the server you want. Oh and don't forget to order the pistachio gelato.

Leoni D Abruzzo was recommended by our Hotel Villafranca. What a find. I had the best artichokes I have ever had. The nightly vegetarian pasta was such a great dish. I am a vegetarian. The customers next to us wanted fish and the waiter went to the kitchen and returned with several fresh, whole fish on a plate. They selected... More

My sisters and I went to this restaurant at the recommendation of our hotel. Someone must be a relation. The food portions were skimpy, the roasted potatoes were cold and hard as rocks, the lamb chops were all bone and gristle with maybe three bites of meat...that was for the entire plate, not just one "chop." We will never eat... More

The wait service was very friendly and we loved our dishes! I had the special of the night...pasta with wild mushrooms and my husband had chicken alla romana. We would definitely recommend this restaurant as an authentic italian choice!

Home cooked fare is the rule of thumb here. Not fancy haute italian cuisine but good, simple Italian food. We had lunch here and it was so good we returned for dinner. However, our lunch selections were a bit tastier than the dinner selections. We had the lasagna and the rigatoni with ham, peas, etc. for lunch. Mom had the... More

Four of us (two couples) stayed at the Canada Hotel (great hotel 2 blocks away) and the staff recommended Leoni D'Abruzzo which was to be our first lunch in Italy. The guys wanted of all things PIZZA, and the girls were looking for pasta. Standing on the street, a staff member asked to help and when we inquired about pizza,... More

We had dinner here one night, sitting outside. The staff were very attentive, but somewhat disengaged. While we had gone there for the homemade pasta, I can't say it was outstanding--but it was quite good and the prices were right. If you want a quick dinner provided by nice people, this will fit the bill

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
