This 100 year old restaurant suffers from over bright lights at night that make you feel you are dining in someone's old aunt's kitchen with florescent lights glaring in your eyes, making you want to make a quick exit. In general, this is average food from an average restaurant that may have been good in it's day. That day has... More

Dear Customer, thanks for your review. Of course, you didn't pay attention to know more about our family and how we carry on the restaurant. We never, never ride on laurels, and probably only someone coming from overseas could think that. Your attention was focused on the lights (Florescent???what does it mean?? We have simple lights), that most people love,... More

This place is too good to be average, but not sufficient to be very good. The reason is that the dishes served varied quite a lot in quality. The first starter, aubergine, was quite good, and the shrimps that followed were also good, but then some tomato and croquettes were of lower quality. We also got pizza, but again, just... More

We were a group of people having dinner here. That is 4 different pizzas. This should be a special place for pizza, but we only got very average quality. The place has been visited by a lot of famous people.

I lived and studied Turin for two years as a student. A student budget only extended to one pizza in a restaurant per week so pasta was our staple fair. However, my flatmates were all Italian so one thing I learned was authentic pasta dishes. We enjoyed five different dishes today and all were exceptionally good - in fact they... More

Thanks for your review. The fact that you ordered and tasted five different dishes (that could be Dangerous for a restaurant!!!) and you found all of them exceptional make us very happy, and we'd like to thank you for your words. Kindest regards and come agai to Umberto if you are around Naples. More

From the four dishes we ordered only one of the starters was exceptional (the octopus) whilst the other three (squid as a a starter and two pasta dishes) were decent but not not exciting. Portions are of a good size and prices fair.

Dear Bauolino, thanks for your review. Overrated compared with what? The customers and the market give us the rate, and I respect your opinion, but don't agree, as we serve thousands of customers, we speak with them, and most of them say something different. Anyway I'm afraid that you weren't completely satisfayied, and I hope to see you again to... More

We went for a late lunch upon arriving in Naples--our hotel recommended the spot. The food was all very good. My daughter enjoyed her Gnocchi Peperoncini, my wife liked her Cassuola Pesce, we all split a white pizza with tomato and peppers and I was pleased with my Baby Squid Cous Cous. The service took a bit of time to... More

In one of the small streets around the shopping district of Naples. Elegant restaurant, made contemporary by the many works of modern art attached to the wall. Very good meatloaf with parmesan eggplant, but also suggest fo pizza, well cooked and full of quality ingredients. To test the tiramiSUD. It is an original version of the tiramisu, where the biscuit... More

Do not hesitate to experience breakfast, lunch or dinner, or even a cup of coffee of your choice at Umberto. You will think you are dining in Italy with an array of Italian memorabilia inside the place. We arrived for brunch. Had the Campagnolo & the Della Casa. Taste was superb and presented well on the plate. Very filling. I... More

Had a really lovely meal. I have a lot of respect for only serving seasonal fresh food instead of relying on frozen. The food was so lovely, absolutely delicious, and the service also brilliant. You felt like they had time for you. They were very welcoming and understanding of our limited Italian, definitely an English friendly restaurant.

Visited with my 14 year old Daughter . The food was faultless , small portions really and not made clear we needed to order pasta or an accompaniment to the meatballs .. However the bread served was lovely and compensated . The service was a bit chaotic , faulty towers like really but we thought it was quite funny ,... More

The history of our restaurant began in 1916 when Ermelinda and Umberto Di Porzio opened a little trattoria, known to most as "Don Umberto". Our menù is rich and varied with its main section built on traditional Neapolitan recipes. Seasonal variations are made throughout the year, our traditional Neapolitan pizza menu and the exquisite family atmosphere all form part of the 'Umberto' identity. During the year we offer a variety of degustation menus to accompany cultural events and local festivals, revising classical Partenopean recipes with an often contemporary twist. We dedicate several areas of our restaurant to Neapolitan and foreign artists with a bi-monthly change. We organise food and wine courses with highly respected organisations such as Slow food, The Authentic Neapolitan pizza and Sommelier Association. Above all we endeavor to continue to care for customers with the dedication expected from a family with over a century of experience in welcoming, recommending and delivering dishes according to the Partenopean tradition.
