I had read about this place on a blog before coming to Matera and my husband and I happened to come across it without actually looking for it while walking the Sassi Barisano. We came back later that evening for dinner as we saw they...had steak Fiorentina on the menu. We asked before being seated about the Fiorentina but they said they didn't have any, we were about to make our way out disappointed but the waiter made a call and said they could get one in for us so we were seated. He showed us the steak before cooking it and it was 1kg of beauty. It was cooked to perfection and paired with an incredible 2004 Valpolicella wine. All in all a perfect meal. We could have so easily have walked away when they said they didn't have what we wanted but they made it happen and it was wonderful. Thank you.More
Our hotel put us on to this little gem. We wanted an earlier dinner than usual for Italy (7pm). I ordered chicken breast with egg plant soufflé. I did not get what I expected but what I did get was exceptional. It was more like...a chicken and eggplant lasagna. Yum. My husband ordered pasta followed by fillet of beef with potatoes. He could hear angels. Everything was perfect and his intention of not eating it all went out the window. The service was fine. Not great English but workable. Drinks were tasty and cold. We could not have asked for more.More
Took a punt on this Restaurant as rated around 100 of 300 odd on Tripadviser. Difficult to find somewhere open in Sassi on a Monday and before 7.30pm. Arrived at 6pm and were the first diners however by 7.30pm there were fifty people in restaurant....I had pasta for first course and fillet steak for second. Pasta was fresh & delicious and the steak was cooked to perfection & superb. Had some roast potatoes to go with it. Had a few drinks and bill very reasonable. Have outdoor area with rain/sun protection and inside seating which is in a cave. Very enjoyable evening and strongly recommend.More
Enjoyed our evening meal so much we went back the next night to try more dishes. All our meals were delicious. Service was impeccable and special thanks to the beautiful Grace for her recommendations, her good humour and her can do manner.
An evening meal in the middle of August and we decided the Sassi in Matera would be a good idea. Nadì was chosen from the reviews on TripAdvisor, mid-range and appeared quite acceptable.
Our table was in a very uncomfortable zone, literally, sitting on the...stone wall of an abandoned commercial premises in the historical Sassi area.
The menus were in Russian, English and Italian, and the strange thing was the Italian menu contained less description than the others! (Important: I did not see any identification of products that may contain nuts or other ingredients that cause allergic reactions)
The waiters were friendly but not over competent. The waiter was unable to suggest a wine to go with the dishes we had ordered so we were left to guess as well as we could.
The food was very mediocre in the presentation and quite disappointing from a taste point of view. Service very slow and we had the feeling our table was "out of sight - out of mind" as we saw the waiting staff very occupied with the tables nearer to the actual restaurant. Even at the end of the meal the "amaro" took an age to arrive, the bill even longer.
Making allowances for the period, August, I would still rate this a disappointing restaurant, I will however try it again in the future but I'll take my Russian friends so they can explain the menu......More
Mollusc shell in the fava bean puree, plastic on the potatoes. Said we didn’t want another but they bought one anyway. Wouldn’t take it off the bill but finally did after an argument. Owner then repeatedly told us to F off (about the only English...he spoke) and actually followed us outside as if he was going to start a fight. Absolutely insane behaviour AVOIDMore
