A tiny little place that is always packed with diners. The pasta is home made and they serve a wide variety of food. Excellent wine menu.

My wife and I lived in Madrid for 3 years and this was, and is still, our favorite "go-to" spot. Fresh ingredients from Italy and simple but excellent dishes are all part of what makes this the best Trattoria in town. Our favorite dishes were the pasta with truffle sauce and the (seasonal) fresh tomato and basil spaghetti. Everything is... More

We really enjoyed the food here-- spaghetti with truffle sauce, quattro-formaggi pizza. Probably the best Italian food we've had outside Italy. The service could be improved, though-- the wait staff was slow and lost track of one of our requests, and the 1.50 Euro per person service charge is a bit chintzy.

I am so pleased that I didn't give up trying to eat here! It was a late lunch and there were few other diners. I was going out later so I didn't want a huge meal. The owner was EXTREMELY accommodating. I was able to have a half portion of spaghetti with truffled oil, rucula, and thin shavings of reggiano... More

Try the mushrooms and the 4cheese penne! I love it! the owner with the Italian accent is you feel like you're there. The ambience is a tiny one.

Being a big fan of italian food i've tried out many italian places in this city. Now I only go to one, Vecchia Milano. The decoration is simple, but the food is excellent! above all the pasta. good value for money. If you're a pasta lover like me, I highly recommend the spaghetti puttanesca or the fussili a la gorgonzola... More

I enjoyed an excellent lunch with one antipasti ham dish and one primo plato pasta dish. Both dishes were delicious, and the house wine completed the meal nicely. I ordered both of mine as media or "half" dishes, and they were each 7-8 euro. Other items ranged from 6-20 euro, many offered as half or full dishes. My waitress was... More

Staying in Arguelles

Neighbourhood Profile
Arguelles
Just south of the sprawling campus of the Complutense University of Madrid, Arguelles exudes a fast-paced, collegiate vibe. The main street, Calle Princesa, is filled with twenty-somethings rushing between classes and errands, meeting up with classmates, and grabbing cheap beers and cheap eats. This is a prime shopping spot where the major Spanish clothing and department store chains are less busy than their downtown counterparts, and there is an array of casual dining options to choose from. Check out nearby outdoor spaces such as the lushly planted Plaza de España to the south, which is often filled with craft stalls. To the west of Arguelles is the giant Parque Oueste, a calm and picturesque park with its own Egyptian temple.
