Got turned away by Vega just down the road. Ended up here having not researched it. MISTAKE Looks nice white tablecloths nice seats. No atmosphere Wine reasonably priced Starters were okay - just. I hate a starter that's served in it's cooked in dish with a warning that it's very hot. They might as well say inedible. My tongue is... More

There was excellent quality of food, with delicious and somewhat untraditional combinations. The tables were semi-enclosed, meaning that we could chat easily, in our own little table area. The service was excellent, with no hitches. The desserts were also delicious. The music created a lovely, relaxing atmosphere in which we could talk and laugh throughout the evening. For a relaxing... More

I often times choose a restaurant exclusively on its decor...Public caught my eye and to our surprise the food was great. They had a nice variety of dishes, and extensive dessert menu, and prices were very fair.

Nice place and restaurant in the city center . The food has been ok but nothing special. I took the Menu with paella ( good taste and portion) and the entrecôte. That was cold and hard to eat. Dessert was ok. Good sangria and price ok Probably not coming anymore

Centrally located nice restaurant. Good meal, but not something special. As well as I felt it was heated meal (especially tuna). Dessert was really good. I don't want to say that it was bad experience, but not "Wow!"

We are students in Madrid for the semester and took our friend here for her birthday dinner - sangria was delicious! The pasta dishes were pretty small (but tasty) but the fish dishes took the cake. Not exactly sure what my friends all ordered but they were all good. I got the salmon and veggies and it was great. Gazpacho... More

This is the fifth time I've been here, from bringing customers from my business to my husband here. This time I was never so insulted and embarrassed!! I tried for 5 minutes to order a bottle of wine for my guest only to be more embarrassed when he returned after a cigarette to order for me. Then we ate and... More

This restaurant was close to our hotel and thank goodness it was as our hotel did not have a restaurant or bar. We stayed in Madrid for 4 days (it rained the whole time) and dined here for 3 of the nights. The food was different from a lot of restaurants. It did special spiced sauces with the food served... Staying in Malasana

Neighbourhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighbourhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
