went to this restaurant on a recommendation however although the restaurant was far from busy ( just another couple and ourselves in the first dining area - and a small party in the other area ) the service was etremely poor. We were brought a ring of bread but no sides plates to eat this from. The dish we first... More

For steaks that are so full of taste and a Spanish dining experience that is difficult to find elsewhere in the city.

Don't go to Caso Paco if you dont like meat! If you love well aged rare steaks, a convivial atmosphere and relaxed but attentive service this is the place for you. The steak comes rare on hot plates so you can cut and let it cook to your perfect state but mine did not last long enough to be other... More

Based on a colleague recommendation we tried this one out. We came early as we haven't made any reservations. Restaurant wasn't open yet but bar was. A few beers and local hard cheese along with some jamon iberico while waiting was a good start. Our waiter didn't have a clue on the english language and that made ordering a bit... More

Ate at this restaurant with friends from Madrid. Lots of local tradition as a neighborhood spot. Food was good, very crowded and noisy. Would go again if friends wanted to go.

We just didn't get this place at all. Having read about it's reputation, we fancied a good steak while in Madrid. However, we just didn't enjoy the beef at all. While we each had a huge piece of beef each of which freshness was not in any doubt, it had a peculiar taste to it, which was worsened by the... More

Simple, pretty nice meat! Solomito was nice! The house is traditional and familiar! Wine list is short, so, dont expect top eines. But they have a fair one! Price around €140 per couple!

I found this restaurant when the founder was running it. It was run later by his wife and now the next generations are operating it. The solomillio, by the gram, is great fund. Don't miss a spanish omlette either.

My friends and I decided to have a lunch there because we heard it was a special place in Madrid to have lunch. While we were waiting for the table, I noticed lots of garbage on the floor. I know it'a typical spanish bar with a custom of throwing things on the floor, but when you see food leftovers on... More

You know what you are getting here when you order a beef steak - you pay by the weight. The pimientos de padron to start with were fine, the chorizo bravo not as spicy as hoped for, the baby lamb cutlets had been deep fried. What a terrible thing to do to such a delicate cut of meat and, with... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
