Had a good lunch there. Food was fresh and well prepared. They had a menu at 13 euros which looked very good. The place is small but cosy and clean.

Good casual. Energetic especially with the older gentleman waiter racing among tables. The croquettes are hot and good. Lots of locals here. Prices good. Will come back.

Our first meal out during our first visit to Spain was at El Salero, just a few minutes walk from the Intur Palacio hotel where we were staying. We arrived at 7:30 p.m. and were reminded that in Spain most restaurants close between 4 and 8 (more or less). We were the only ones in the place, about which we... More

I went with my husband, three children (16, 14 & 7) and parents-in-law. The food was very good, flavorful with lots of little touches like the small bed of super skinny "french fries" under the breaded calamari rings. Three of us ordered one of the homemade rice casseroles (marinero). You need to wait 20 minutes. Very tasty! Kids had water... More

Discovered this at the end of our holiday, would have returned. They had an excellent set menu including drinks, which was well cooked and generous.

My wife and I were looking for a restaurant with outdoor seating with two other couples. We were all tired after spending a day touring the hot, noisy, and crowded city of Madrid. We were unable to reach agreement on a restaurant, so, in desperation, I looked inside at the restaurant and saw that it was clean. So, I said,... More

This is an interesting no frills bar/restaurant serving typical Spanish food just south of Callao. Good value, nice wine and atmosphere. Very good 'fritto misto'.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
