We arrived without a reservation at 9:30 on a Friday night and a kind waiter took pity on us and gave us a table. Bread is served with wonderful tapanade, just a hint of the pleasure to follow. Restaurant was bustling with many friends and couples. Try the pasta carbonara with asparagus and smoked pork - incredible, with bits of... More

Arrived at 9:30 on a busy Friday with no reservation after being turned away at several other restaurants. The head waiter went out of his way to fit us in. Some of the dished are truly innovative; I had pasta carbonara that included asparagus, truffles and guanchale, delicious. Service is friendly and attentive at very reasonable prices.

good restaurant. Waiters alwasy very helpful. If you can go upstairs for a little bit of better atmosphere (downstairs a little bit more cafeteria atmosphere). Check in the same street (Españoleto) for other Italian choices

Very good Italian food with "normal" prices and the availability of half portions. The ground floor is more informal than the upper one.

Sicilian restaurant in front of another one of the same type just across the street. It has a less formal canteen downstairs where it is possible to have lunch as well as dinner, with 1/2 ration dishes available. Upstairs the proper restsurant is located. The menu offer is really good. Also the service. Appetaizers, pasta and main courses of quality.... More

I'm Italian and every time I went to Italian restaurants in Madrid, I've always found something wrong and not so "italian" as it is supposed to be. Well, this is not the case. Very good the daily dishes. Nice atomosphere. Quite a large variaty of choices from the most popular (i.e carbonara) to more original (manily Sicilian dishes) and surprisingly... More

Excellent restaurant with plenty of atmosphere and clearly very popular as it was full to bursting very soon after opening. The menu is not extensive and a little confusing if you don't speak Spanish, however the food was magnificent when it arrived and surprisingly reasonably priced.

Visited this authentic sicilian restaurant after a recommendation from hotel concierge. We were lucky to have the last table as all others had been reserved. We were warmly welcomed and provided bar snacks free of charge whilst we waited for our food. It was clear once the food had been served that this was traditional home made food that had... More

Staying in Chamberi

Neighbourhood Profile
Multi-story residential buildings decorated with ornate balconies line the traditional, quiet, and pretty streets of Chamberí. Humble storefronts and neighbourhood taverns are scattered across the lower levels down every block, and here and there, there's a cluster of tables on the sidewalk. It isn't ever crowded, but people are always out, poking into the tiny bakeries, hardware stores, and tobacco shops, or ducking into a bright, unadorned cerveceria to have a coffee or beer by the bar, flip through the paper, and check the sports score. The round Plaza Olavide, where the fairly regular network of streets breaks form, is among the most green and lively spots. Restaurants line its circumference and sought-after outdoor tables fill the center of the plaza, where people relax to the sounds of kids playing and street musicians' tunes.
