Having just arrived from 6 days in Barcelona we were looking for food other than tapas. Stumbled on this restaurant. I chose the mini lamb chops. Requested steamed vegetables instead of fries. My husband had the sirloin fillet and it was cooked to perfection. They brought out yummy olives and crusty bread rolls. Best bread in many days. Prices were... More

This shop is almost outside our apartment in Madrid, we stop every morning for a coffee before we hit the road! Great taste, they also have pastries and liquor.

Friendly staff, delightful food, small but very good wine list. Very accommodating and welcoming place. Good balance of attentive and leave-in-peace service. Highly recommend.

Great value and attention to detail. We were welcomed in and left as long lost friends. We gorged on jambon then shared the paella along with house white c. wine. A courtesy carafe of chocolate creamy liqueur was the finale. All together lovely.

We enjoyed dinner at Cafe Varela. Hubby ordered steal tidbits with padrón peppers. I had fettuccini Bologonese. We also shared a bottle of red wine. Staff was extremely friendly and attentive. After a little chit chat, our server left and returned with 2 glasses of champagne and some bonbons on the house! My hubby then ordered a glass of Port... More

Very friendly staff, good wine and tapas. Very good service - would highly recommend. We were staying at the hotel next door and wanted a local establishment, and this was much better than we expected.

We liked the menu they were displaying on the street, so we chose to go in and eat. It was the best service I have ever experienced in any restaurant in my life. Wonderful staff and great food. No problems getting glutenfree food and they were very flexible with changing the courses to make them glutenfree. Very kind and service... More

Attached to Hotel Preciados in centre of town. We were atracted to the English menu and amazed by the quality of service, food and wine. Excellent guidence of food and wine gave us a very enjoyable evening with bonus brandy at the end of the evening. We went back for a second evening.

Thank Malcolm B

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
