We were surprised how good the restaurant was, as we chose it for its location near our hotel after a long day. As others have noted, their warm appetizer of "artichoke flowers" (hearts with leaves splayed out like a chrysanthemum and drizzled with olive oil and garlic) is outstanding. We also ordered another of their specialties, monkfish. We got the... More

Place is big, and at the time when I was there a bit crowded and noisy. However stuff is very nice, friendly and willing to help. Food is just amazing. It is a bit pricy but still worth the money.

If you like artichokes, you must get the artichoke side/appetizer. It is the most delicious, delicate I have ever had. THe side dish is for 2-4 persons, so you can order a half dish if you ask. When you go there, know that most of the appetiser starters are for 2-6 people to share. Went there several times, and my... More

My wife and I both had great meals at El Pimento Verde. We chose it from the street, and walked in on a lark, and were very pleased with our selection. Great food, interesting preparations. Don't be scared off by looking in the window and seeing all the tables full - there is an entire upstairs section.

Whether for lunch or dinner, whether with family or friends, you will enjoy the experience at this restaurant. The food is fantastic, meat or fish, everything has an excellent quality and has been carefully prepared. You should try the "green pepper stuffed with txangurro". And "artichoke flowers" is a must. The cheesecake is awesome.

On a cold night in Madrid(bet that doesn't happen very often)we didn't want to stray far from the hotel.Just across the street is El Pimiento Verde. It looks inviting, menu looks good and it was busy, usually a good sign also.We were given the last seats available and advised we would have to leave in 1 hour 30 mins.As we were only going... Me and my girlfriend walked into this restaurant in searching for traditional oxtail and this restaurant looked fine from outside but we were wrong. The restaurant was empty but never the less the waitress put us in the corner by the toilet door. It cost us 75 euros for two meals and two beers. And the best part was the... More

Got here with some colleagues for a Dinner, typical Spanish basque cuisine. Good presentation and menu with detailed description. We got usual entries to share among with Arctichokes as local specialty served like flowers and a nice salad with seafood. as main dish an excellent serving of squid in black sauce with rice.An extensive choice of desserts closed the menu.... Went here because my 1st choice was closed and this seemed like a nice cosey place and the ratings where ok. Without reservation we could get a table and after looking at the menu we found out it is a bit expensive for the place. My wife ordered the risotto with langoustines, it where shrimps 😱 and a overdose of... More

We swung by this place after walking by it and spotting some nice looking dishes the evening before. I ordered the mussels and my companion ordered a fish stew. They were both good. I kept seeing other people order some green thing, so I asked what it was. The waitress said it was artichoke flowers and asked if we wanted... More

Staying in Arguelles

Neighbourhood Profile
Arguelles
Just south of the sprawling campus of the Complutense University of Madrid, Arguelles exudes a fast-paced, collegiate vibe. The main street, Calle Princesa, is filled with twenty-somethings rushing between classes and errands, meeting up with classmates, and grabbing cheap beers and cheap eats. This is a prime shopping spot where the major Spanish clothing and department store chains are less busy than their downtown counterparts, and there is an array of casual dining options to choose from. Check out nearby outdoor spaces such as the lushly planted Plaza de España to the south, which is often filled with craft stalls. To the west of Arguelles is the giant Parque Oueste, a calm and picturesque park with its own Egyptian temple.
