We were recommended 7Portes by two different friends as being one of those "must do" restaurants in Barcelona. It's a huge place and you get the feeling it's a bit like an old lady tea room, with enormous, very chintzy lampshades in pink. Don't let that put you off as the food is very good, and you won't be disappointed.... More

Given all the reviews I write, I should read others' more often. Most, if not all, of what others have written here is true: Good, almost excellent, food, very good wines, slow-to-nonexistent service at times. All was good, I was full. I had a head full of wine. There, on the bill, was the overcharge for the bread. When I... More

A lovely authentic catalonian meal with veryou friendly staff. I'm glad we booked online in advance as it was quite busy but I can understand why. Great paella! My only critique was the lighting was very bright and if it was a bit dimmer it would have created more ambiance.

The atmosphere is great, live piano music. Great paella and croquettas. Service was a bit slow but we didnt mind as we could enjoy the setting even more

We visited this restaurant in February as we wanted to try the Paella dish and based on trip advisor reviews felt like this would be the place to go to. We called up to make a reservation but they did not have any tables available for reservation, however they advised that we could turn up and be given a table... More

We enjoyed our dinner. Traditional food. Very busy place. Not particularly relaxing. But if you want paella, it seems to be the place everyone sends tourists.

Good traditional place with very good paella, and our waiter, Pablo, was a very good one, an artist I can say.

The place to go for authentic paella. Great service and a good varied wine list too couldn't have been happier.

Went for a meal with my work colleagues and was counting on trying the decanted 7 Portes. The Restaurant is a very nice location but... the food did not live up to it's fame. The rice of the paella was overcooked, the catalan cream seemed straight from the fridge and was very liquidy. Also tried the mussels which also gave... More

Opening its doors in 1836 to begin offering over 150 years of excellence, Restaurant de les 7 Portes is truly the most classic of Barcelona's eating places. Here, you can enjoy the finest Catalan cooking in an intimate setting or in one of the spacious banquet halls, accompanied by Spain's best wines and "cavas" (sparkling wines) from the well-stocked cellar. The restaurant is housed in the Pòrtics d'en Xifré, a building declared a national monument and the first place in Barcelona where running water was installed. In 1942, it became the property of Paco Parellada, founder of one of the foremost dynasties of restaurateurs in all of Catalonia.

Staying in Barceloneta

Neighbourhood Profile
Originally a fisherman’s quarter, this quaint area can’t escape its small village feel: laundry hanging over the narrow streets, old ladies clamoring at each other from their balconies and elder gentlemen playing games on short wooden benches gossiping the day away, Barceloneta could double as a film set. Artists line the boardwalk displaying their magnificently detailed sand structures making this the most visited beach in the city (the shirtless men working out might help too). You’ll know by the delicious aroma that you're in the right place to try some of the best and most authentic seafood including paella, Spain’s national dish.
