Long time since I had not found such a pleasant unexpected jewel in Barcelona. Very few tables but great service and really real Japanese experience served by passionate waiters. A must.

This was kind of accidental for us. We didn't plan on going here last night, we tried to get reservations at spanish restaurants, but were unable to. We tried to walk in on Arume, but only two of the four of us could sit. So my wife found this place and they were able to seat us. what a delightful... More

We went there tonight and it turned out to be a big disappointment, tonight is our last night of the stay in Barcelona and this meal is the worst among all. You can tell the staff are trying hard to imitate Japanese but the truth is that they are still far away. They are very polite, but they are not... More

Don't get me wrong, food at Carlota Akaneya is very good. My wife and I had the 40 euro Akaneya menu. Is it worth 40 euros? We say no. We had a fantastic dinner at Vinitus the day before for 40 euros total including alcool and 6 tapas plates. Our dinner at Carlota Akaneya was 95 euros. We expected a... More

Great location, a restaurant that blew my mind. The meat menu (65€ menu) we got was fantastic ,where the Kobe meat was the crown jewel. The atmosphere was lively and the greeting ceremony was the best, so fun to hear them great incoming guests with their delightful chant. Plumb sake is a must. The Japanese whisky was a nice surprise,... More

So happy we managed to get a reservation and experience this unique restaurant. You get greeted in Japanese when you arrive, even by the chefs at the back who shout out. Very intimate ambience. The waiters explain exactly how you have to cook the food. We ordered the €40pp menu and the amount of food served was just right. The... More

We went twice to Akaneya and always loved it! Apart from the excellent food, you can enjoy the great location and the nice service. Definitely make a reservation well in advance as it gets booked out fast. The meat was so soft it was out of this world. Definitely a must-visit when in Barcelona!!

Have to ring door to get in. Arrived late after a show, had booked. Great starters and mains. The attraction is cooking the thin slices of Japanese beef on the table centre barbecue. Lots of fun.

Definitely need to make a reservation well advance if you like to visit this restaurant, as its very small (has max 7-8 tables). We opted for a menu AKANEYA @ 39.90 EUR/person. Which consists from Miso soup (very good, strong flavors), gyoza (ok, but not the best we were eating), prawns (you grill it by yourself on the bed of... More

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
