The best tapas bars need bookings and not pushchair friendly. This place was recommended to us and did not disappoint. Super friendly service and very accommodating. A small venue, but fit our pushchair in.

This is a crowded area, so we were happy to find an open table at El Bixto to have drinks and tapas before the concert. Cozy atmosphere with friendly and prompt service.

Just across the street from the place we loved the most in Barcelona, Palau de la Musica, we also found the best Tapas Bar: El Bitxo. A very small place (not more than 20 seats) with fantastic food and fantastic Cava. Very authentic tiny place although the waitress spoke very good English. Do yourselves a favor, especially if you're in... More

We came in for the decor which looked really nice, and had fresh flowers etc. but the rest was disappointing. There are only about 6 tables but 3 tables were served before us, even though we were sitting right in front of the bar, including a group of 4 behind us before we'd even been given a menu. We were... More

There are not enough adjectives in the English language to describe how amazing this restaurant is! I went here with a friend, we were having a long weekend away. She had lived in Barcelona for a year a few years ago and raved about this place. I can. It agree more! The salmon in coffee is divine, the potatoes glorious... More

A local guide recommended this place and it did not disappoint. They were particularly helpful in picking a nice bottle of wine.

This was recommended by the Information center down the street. The location is perfect for eating a quick bite before the theatre. It appears to be popular with tourist that do a good job acting like locals so read that as cool gringos packed into what is a charming dive. The menu was a bit difficult for us to understand... Went for lunch as visiting Palau de la Musica and thought best to try a side street for something more authentic...El Bixto did not disappoint. We had the delicious tuna, a meltingly delicious Bellota ham and artichoke salad and a delicious glass of white wine. The waitress was really helpful and suggested when we ordered the tomatoe bread that we... More

tiny but spectacular place near the Palau de Musica. Great drinks, (fantastic gin selection). Had an excellent platter of jamon and sausage selections.

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighbourhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
